The Revived Tolkien Trivia

Hmm. From the relative paucity of quotes concerning said phylum, one might conclude he was allergic.....

Now Clanny, methinks those who take 5 days to post a question ought to be more patient with those trying to answer it....

*Sends The Clansman a nice, virtual Sierra Nevada Pale Ale*

Enjoy it with virtual responsibility, and let us stew a little longer....;)

Darn. Have to wait a little while (I'm not hot, and it's only 9:12 a.m.). Oh well, in the words of Alan Jackson (with some liberties)

"It's only 9 a.m., but I don't care...
'cause it's five o'clock somewhere." (the song actually says "It's only half-past twelve...")

AAAAAAAH! Mighty refreshing brew, Grim. My thanks.

Being an American, you are perhaps unfamiliar with the Canadian summer "long weekends". We have four of them, starting in May (which is a bit early for summer, I admit, but being this far north we always try to wishfully push the envelope in this regard) with Victoria Day (May 24, or as near as the Monday falling before it can be), Canada Day (July 1, never moves), the Civic Holiday (first Monday in August, descendant of the old Scottish Bank Holiday, I believe), and of course, Labour Day (like yours, the first Monday in September, except spelled with a "u" in it). from July 31 to August 3, I was otherwise engaged, and we actually had some decent weather for a change (except Sunday, when it poured all. day. long.)

Therefore, excluding holiday activities, I only took two days to come up with my exceptionally obscure question (at least, in my humble opinion).

Man, can you ever tell from the above that I make my living by making excuses for people's behaviour!;)

Any takers? Is a hint needed? Three days now have passed, and not even the whiff of a guess...

My last post was a clue! A great, big fat one. At least Marky didn't engage in a nasal appraisal.

Oh, all right then, how about this?

Then Mîm opened his eyes and pointed to his bonds; and when he was released he spoke fiercely. 'Learn this, fools!' he said. 'Do not put bonds on a Dwarf! He will not forgive it. I do not wish to die, but for what you have done my heart is hot. I repent my promise.'

The Children of Húrin, Chapter VII, OF MÎM THE DWARF, p. 126 (since there's only 1 version thus far, I might be safe with a page number here?!)

Hmm, I'd expected Clanny to weigh in by now. I am off to the Atlantic coast for a week of beach and non-internet activities. If my submission should happen to be correct, I defer the next challenge to whomever is fastest to collect it after Clanny confirms.

Stay well, all, and I'll see you in a week!

*Circles once, then roars out the TT window and over the horizon with a wave*

Sorry, Grim. On holidays this week. Finally have some beautiful summer weather (for a change).

The bell is chiming, as your answer was bang on. Mind you, my hint (the only one I could think of) was kind of obvious.

As the originator of this thread, I challenge anyone with a question about shellfish to pose it now Grim has gone for a week...

Well, I could ask, to what does this verse refer?

Ruler of creeper,
mortal, and scallop,
This is the sleeper
that packs quite a wallop.

But oh no, we're not allowed to use that book, are we.

Harebrain's question was from a book we're not even allowed to mention. But I take some satisfaction that no one else managed to come up with a shellfish one.

Are we waiting for Grim to get back from his holidays? His concept of time seems particularly poor.

Oye, I'm back (since Friday last), but I thought it understood that I'd relinquished my spot to the first taker (can't be squatting on it if I'm not in a position to check replies, right?)

Reviewing the postings, that would either be Marky or you, my fine hare. Given that Marky solicited shellfish challenges with his opportunity, I'm going to
1. Assume he wanted someone else to challenge;
2. Make a *cough* command decision; and
3. Delegate to you, HB.

As long as you don't offer any more quotes from the unmentionable, that is....
