No offense intended TK. I took it as tounge and cheek humour, not to be taken too serious. I think Kiwibird meant it the same way, seeing as how he made another joke when Smiling turned it on Belgium.

That's fine and I take it at your word that it was not meant in a hateful way. I was just somewhat surprised but Kiwibird's post and your response and did not see the humour in the jokes about gay RCMP officers or anything for that matter. It kind of came out of nowhere. I would be happy to let the matter rest as long as we stay away from that kind of humour (Canada is only one of three countries to have equal gay marriage you know ). We should all quit while we're way ahead. Personally, I always could share a good laugh at my country's expense as long as it's not mean or flaming in any way.

I don't want to be a stick in the mud, but I would hate it to see someone pull a Mel Gibson on here and get themselves in real trouble...

Genesis said something about Belgium and in return i said something about Canada (jokingly), BIG TOES is all i am saying, for one could trash my country and its inhabitants and i would laugh and join in the fun of the thrashing, must be a northern American thing to be so patriotistic, after all never in my right mind would i say that a thing like I love belgium and God bless it, then again i would not bring in God anyways for who knows if that dude exsist and if he is i am pretty sure he is a sadist whom should not be worshipped after all we are suppossed to be created like his form, though he did create us twice, convenient no, once in Eden once on the 6day of his 7day creation, (the hatemail arrive from overly-catholic-take religion-too-far America)

As for Gays, i have nothing against them, i have friends that are gay, and i think that belgium is one of those countries where gays can marry, perhaps it is just that he is from the mounted police(funny looking folk) and is gay yet insecure about it and feels threatened and offended, (another batch of hatemail)

Ow i wish too add that not at all are all jokes about homosexuality immature, we should be able to make jokes of everything, one is obliged even to do so up until a certain point, it is not because a topic is sensitive that you can't joke about it, even more so, when a topic is sensitive it often helps to joke about it, much better that then to act as if it doesn't exist or be all the time all serious about it.

lolz, okay, that last about you maybe being a member of the mounted police was a bit too far, but thats it, (oh if you did not know that was a joke too, perahps i should put a big sign up from now), I mean, its not like i said anything bad about gay people now did i, and i won't cause that is not my viewpoint upon them, it is just the way some people are born and thats it, neither did i say that the mounted police did not do their job properly, so it is not like i went crude and excessive besides that last bit about you, but clearly you are easily offended and perhaps even a bit naarowminded about certain things( that probably went too far for you as well, but clearly you do not seem to handle criticism well, acting as though i am forced too agree with you,i won't aologize went i do not feel it is necesarry). Perhaps it is you that is a bit immature about the topic and therefore cannot handle even the slightest bit about it.

As for going back to the topic, this is a forum and thus a place for discussion, if all just agrees with everyone it would be boring and without live, if we get somewhat offtrack concerning the thread it is not a big nor an important thing.

And i do not see what anything has to do with the fact that i am not on this forum for as long as you have, besides you yourselves arent that long on it yourself

Actually, KB, you don't know me and thus cannot say that I am either narrowminded, immature or easily offended (all your words), which is probably the exact opposite of my character. But yes, in your two last postings that you have offered in your defence, even though there was no need, you did go too far. Perhaps the Moderators should explain one of the fundamental rules of this forum that makes it a nice place to discuss all things GRRM with others: there is no flaming others, which is exactly what you have just done. So, a piece of advice, because you don't seem to get it: QUIT NOW, stop digging yourself deeper. There is no problem discussing things such as sexual orientation and I would be willing to do so but not in the context that you offered in your postings. I am now done with this issue and hope we can move on in a collegial manner. Perhaps Wil's response can serve as a very good example as a mature response for you here.

Kiwibird: OK, maybe you don't realise this. But:

First, jokes are generally funny. Nothing you have said in this thread is funny.

Second, laughing at gay people is making fun of their sexuality. Making fun of someone's sexuality is offensive.

It isn't less offensive because you didn't 'go crude'. If anything, it's more so, because you seem to think that homosexuality is funny per se.

And it's that attitude that's immature. It's like saying 'boobs!' and snickering. Most people grow out of that at about age nine.

Third, the adult reaction to someone telling you they have found something you said offensive is to apologise and then shut up. Justifying yourself or accusing people of being oversensitive is eesentially telling them that you regard it as their problem, not yours: adding insult to injury. Plus, it's about as mature as saying 'oh yeah? well, takes one to know one!'

Now, you may say 'why can't I be immature?' and you would be right. You can be as immature as you like. But don't be surprised if people call you on it, or don't pay any attention to you as a result.
