New GRRM Update on ADWD

Those POV's that are recuring and are appearing in ADWD include:

Jon
Dany
Tyrion
Arya
Asha
Bran
Davos
Sansa
Cersei

Those new POV's are:

Varamyr Six Skins
Reek (well, he's not really new)
Melissandre
Quentyn
Surprise new POV nobody but GRRM knows about...

See here for speculation:

I vote for Shireen Baratheon as the surprise POV.

I'd like to hear more about your Shireen "precition" I'm intrigued.

Sansa isn't in ADWD any more. She had a chapter written but it was moved to Book 6.

My prediction for the new POV is Barristan Selmy.

So will it be another few years before we hear what word Brienne spoke?

I'm hoping not. GRRM said he wanted to wrap up the major cliffhangers from AFFC in ADWD. We know Cersei and Arya are in ADWD so that's two of the three big ones, but of course GRRM can't tell us if Brienne has a POV chapter or not since that automatically tells us what her fate is (whether she's dead or alive).

I understand the delicacy of the matter, Werthead.

In any case, we should know one way or the other (whether that cliffhanger is resolved, I mena, not how it is) within four months. :)

Does anyone really doubt that she is alive? What's the point of that cliffhanger ending if she died? The real cliffhanger is what the words are, and what her choice is, not whether she survived.

Maybe Brienne's cliffhanger is resolved in the new surprise POV. We don't need Brienne's POV to find out what she said and what happened to her. Who else was there watching the scene that could potentially be a POV?

Wouldn't it be "delcious" if the new POV is the Un-Cat?

I was actually thinking the same thing! But I wasn't sure if Un-Cat would be considered "new" or not. I wouldn't mind seeing what's going on inside her head right now.

Well, if she WAS the new POV it would be called Lady Stonheart. That would be tricksy and technically a new POV, no?

Good point. Definitely the kind of thing GRRM could do. I'd welcome it. It's not too often you get to see a zombie's point of view.

But can she think, really, beyond being driven for vengeance? I think it's fairly well out of the realm of possibility....

Back to my original question then...who else is there in that scene that could be a POV? I'm asking honestly because I can't remember who all is there. Just saying, that cliffhanger could easily be resolved in ADWD without a Brienne POV.

Why do they have to be there? They could just come across Brienne afterward, or a member of Stoneheart's troupe, or hear tell of the events secondhand. No need to have a POV character being there to find out what happened...

I think the word is "STOP", btw. That's the one word that would indicate she had more to say.

Anyway, how about Podrick for a POV.

Yeah, I was going to say that Pod as a POV could make sense. There's also Thoros and other members of the BWB who were present.

GRRM has said there are several characters who will never be a POV, and I think the list is: Varys, Littlefinger, Howland Reed and undead Catelyn. I suppose he could change his mind, but that suggests they'll never be POVs unless something radical happens.

Seems like the scene would lose its effect if we heard about it secondhand later. We'd also never really know what was said and what went down since things always change in a retelling. I think GRRM will resolve it in a Brienne POV or someone else who is there while it's happening. Podrick Payne would be cool. I like that kid; I think he's pretty entertaining.

As viZion says, I'm not sure a hearsay account of the events would resolve matters satisfactorily. (A full report form CSI: Westeros might do, I suppose.)

Or "Wait!" or "Sword!" (But not "Noose!")
