New GRRM Update on ADWD

5 books??!! Dance is being split into 5 separate books, so we're going to get one book of one character on July 12th. The dance goes on I suppose. I fully dissaprove of this format, I'd rather have it all at once instead of disjointed like this. Or at least split into two volumes. I hope it doesn't ruin the flow of the series.

Meant to comment on this a few days ago, but did everyone catch this post on Not a Blog. When announcing the release date for ADwD, GRRM said "Barring tsunamis, general strikes, world wars, or asteroid strikes, you will have the novel in your hands on July 12."
A commenter replied:
I thought it was pretty funny (and slightly alarming at the same time!) Are the gods conspiring to prevent us from ever reading ADwD?! Or is it just one of Littlefinger's plots.

"March 11, 2011 NFL CBA talks break down. Seems like a general strike in the NFL is eminent.

I think it's a 100% certainty that this was an April Fool's prank by GRRM, and apparently quite effective
There's a slight change that that's true, I suppose....
But at least he didn't say the book had been executed or had otherwise come to a sticky end, unlike some (okay, many) of his characters.

How does that old saying go? The best lies have elements of truth in them?
I don't think there's even a .000001% chance that it was true, but it certainly SOUNDS as if it could sort of be true. It's king of frightening to think that if he actually did release one chapter a month it would take at least 6 years to publish the entire 5th book.

Admittedly, it was halfway believable right up until he said, "A DANCE WITH DRAGONS: ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE" and "A DANCE WITH DRAGONS: THE MEERENEESE KNOT". GRRM was definitely playing to our low expectations of him while poking fun at himself at the same time. He definitely earned a few respect points from me. Kinda made me feel like he does indeed understand and shares in our frustration. It's a lot better way to handle it than having an idiot like Neil Gaiman go off about bitches or whatever. Anyway, looking forward to July 12th!

You're right, I think that there's no doubt that GRRM "gets it". As terrible as the wait has been for all his fans, there's probably no one that can even approach his level of frustration.
Off the top of my head, 72 days to ADWD and 14 until GOT. He must be delighted.
