Casting news from the TV series

As for the Stark girls, taking two newbies to acting to play these roles where:
a) Arya does some serious murdering
b) Sansa is abused and sees some horryfying stuff
Is a big leap of faith. I hope they made the right one but I will give them the benefit of the doubt as I am certainly not a casting manager for such a large ensemble cast.

Our generation is completely desensitized to violence. They've probably done worse things themselves while playing GTA4.

I think the concern is less about them being traumatized than it is about them being able to pull off the gravitas and make the roles convincing. Though with parts that young, there's no way to get experienced actors or actresses anyway.

I dunno Dakota Flanning or whateveryamajacallher has a lot of experience and is about the right age for young Arya maybe, just have to dye her hair brown

What about Mord? I wonder if Paul Wright, aka the Big Show, is interested.
big show for Mord would be pretty epic. Though i'd rather see him in a role that can provide some more comedic elements...the man is funny when WWE lets him be!

edit: wow, can't post links until i have 15 posts...seems you can't even quote links :O

Sorry, Tansy but maybe you should look back at the previous posts and GRRM's Not a Blog to see that the role of Arya has been cast (and it isn't Dakota Fanning):
Not A Blog

I also forgot that my list on the previous page should of included:
Mad King Aerys II (in a flashback??)
Jon Arryn (in a flashback??)

ah so its really happening then :)

Not been keeping abreast of the news lately

I like the choice of Harry Lloyd for Viserys, though I think also Harry could have done Jon Snow as well, he looks still young enough and I think could have pulled it off. I think he will do a fine Viserys though.

I also think they did well with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, he is almost exactly what I picture Jaime as looking.

I just hope we get to see it here in Australia.

once its been filmed... keep an eye on the Showcase channel Wybren... all the good HBO/Showtime series are on that one...

Yep, and looks like Cersei's been cast too, but no name yet, only the following clue:

She has no lines in common with Mr. Miyagi, but maybe she should. If we were playing "Six Degrees," there would only be one link between us. Her mother and Big Ben are strangers.

I'm hoping it'll be Sophia Myles, as opposed to Hilary Swank (both of whom have been suggested).

P.S. I remember that advert for Scots Porage Oats that McCann was in (vaguely). Even then, I was annoyed that they'd miss-spelled porridge.

McCann was also in 'Hot Fuzz'. He played the big guy from the supermarket who could only say 'Ahhhrrr' and 'Nahhhhrr'.

His bio says he's 6ft 6" tall. Wouldn't he have been a better choice for Gregor Clegane?

Sophia Myles is also being thrown around. I think she may too young. Cersei is the same age as Catelyn more or less.

Sophia Myles

Personally, I think it could be Robyn Lively, who was in Karate Kid III

Either Pat Morita or Ralph Macchio in drag would work maybe. The magic of the screen... :D

And, RE: McCann, Gregor is bigger than 6'6.

Given those clues I doubt it would be Hilary Swank as she had lines in common with Mr Miyagi. Besides I dont think Hilary Swank has the right look for Cersei

If Robyn Lively shared no lines with Mr Miyagi in Karate Kid III then she could be a candidate, she is about the right age and looks sort of Cersei-ish.

Lena Headey, fresh off the Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, will be playing Cersei Lannister.

Excellent choice, good actress, good match with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau playing Jaime. Cersei is possibly more voluptuous than Headey (who usually goes for slimmer roles) so interesting to see if they just roll with that or maybe ask her to eat a few pies before filming. But, as throughout casting, they've gone for acting talent first and looks second, and they're continuing to do a good job so far.

Here's a video from the 2002 movie Possession, featuring Headey and Jennifer Ehle, who is playing Cat Stark. Looks like the two actresses work quite well together.

Thanks Wert. I did not watch the Terminator series but am keeping optimistic. I love this line from the link you provided:

One "Thrones" fan asked me if this level of interest in a pilot that may not show up on TV for a year or more is normal. No, it's not. But Martin's book series tends to inspire a certain kind of deep and abiding loyalty, if not obsession. To read the books of Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series (four have come out so far) is to be completely immersed in a world that recalls the golden age of knights and chivalry while also showing, through memorable and believable characters, how deeply flawed human nature can be. It's a world in which honor and fealty don't mean what they used to and those in power have to contend with an array of threats, sometimes from those closest to them, sometimes from unexpected places.

Some more details on her:
Lena Headey

She played the Queen in 300.

She's also 36, the perfect age for Cersei IMO.
