Casting news from the TV series

yes. and the best role for Viggo in Game of Thrones would be... absolutely NONE!
He's woeful in LOTR... can't imagine him contaminating Thrones with his shameful inability to master an accent - or at the very least stick to only ONE throughout a production. I'll admit he was good...even very good.. in Eastern Promises...but i just can't trust him to perform well in a fantasy setting.
Besides... with Sean Bean in the cast it would be too much to have two of the fellowship in this.

Since the Grin already touched on it, I believe Sean Bean should've been Aragorn. Back on topic, what if "The fourth is the fifth" means that this person played some lord that was a fifth. And as for the one played by a puppet...I'm thinking Potter Puppet Pals, Alan Rickman.

your more than welcome to say so HJ. For me there were glimmers of what Aragorn should have been from Viggo... just far too few. In the Prancing Pony...the look is perfect... the accent appalling...lol it even changed DURING the scene. Battle Scenes are also great... hmmm...any time he wasn't talking he was ok. as soon as he opened his mouth... ghastly!

Fair enough, Grin!

I don't know what this series will be like. I can't think of anything like it, especially with such high calibre actors.

Viggo's voice was a major drawback. He looked like Strider. Except for the fact that he was not 6'6" or taller, he looked like Strider. Since the Fellowship was creeping around trying to avoid Nazgul, I did not worry about the voice. But when he made his speech at the Black Gates, I was embarrassed. Jackson should have used some of his mighty effect machines and enhanced Viggo's voice. Finally, at his coronation, he needed to be taller...

Viggo is definitely old enough to be Stannis. Robert was 35-39 when he died... and Stannis is younger than him. Viggo's got to be at least 46.

And if the voice is a problem, let him be cast as Ser Illyn Payne.

Again, picky, picky. Personally I had not problems with Viggo in LOTR. Oh, and he's actually 51 but looks young for his age. The magic of the screen can make anyone look 10 years younger or older.

Anywho, Viggo could also play Jorah.

As for Alan Rickman, I immediately thought of Stannis but Rickman may be too old for that role. What about Littlefinger? That would be the coup de gras.

Didn't the LOTR movie change the casting for Aragorn at the last minute? Strikes me that the original cast member was someone they ended up deeming too young.

Well, the whole tone of LOTR changes from less formal to more formal, as you read. Strider gives way to Aragorn. Sam becomes a hero. Oops, wrong thread.

Stannis is supposed to be low in charisma, Viggo could play that up. He would have time to work on a more kingly accent, yet not someone people would follow. (so not a good speaker, and not warmly emotional) May be lots better for Stannis, true.

I think they are probably going to do a time warp on the characters ages anyway, for the series, and make them all older. But who knows. They have cast "unknown children" for some roles, so we can't guess!

Update yesterday on GRRM's blog. Cannot yet reveal the 6 actors yet but a tidbit in there about more casting decisions being made later this week. The Belfast production office has opened but start of filming has been pushed back 2 weeks to Oct. 26.

Something in there about crooked ducks and the Loving Spoonful. :D

And if the voice is a problem, let him be cast as Ser Illyn Payne.

For me there can be no Illyn Payne but David Bradley, who could even be the character that has something in common with Harry Potter because he played the Hogwarts version of the creepy high school Janitor stereotype: Argus Filch. Type-casting can be the bane of an actor's life, if you believe some, but if you just copied over Bradley's look in HP and pasted it into ASOIAF and then suited him in dirty, rusty mail then he would be the definitive Illyn Payne, no doubt about it.

Oh and by the way, I thought Viggo made a great Aragorn in way of looks but yeah, his accent sucked. Only in the first half of the first movie though, to be fair. After that it stops being a scottish/irish/northern/wtf blend and levels out at queen's english for some reason. At least after that he is consistent.

More GRRM riddles!

Seven kindoms, seven gods, and seven parts now cast that I can't tell you about.

Ser Seven is another terrific award winning actor. He will be going back to a place he's been before. This is a guy who once went to the wars with our Jaime, though it's a good thing that Jaime wasn't a kingslayer then, or all history might have been changed. And there are mountains in Westeros that he might know, though his character has never seen 'em.

More by week's end, maybe.

And the announcement? Don't ask me.
The folks at Winter Is Coming - News and rumors about HBO's Game of Thrones are doing a great job at guessing these actors. It's pretty much unanimous that Ser Jorah is the next one cast by actor Ian Glen, http://www.gazillionmovies.com/Actor/I/Ia/Pictures/iain-glen.jpg ,as he was the King in Kingdom of Heaven, which was filmed in Morocco. (the same place Dany's scenes will be filmed). He was also an award winning actor in movie called Mountains of the Moon, which refer to the last statement of knowing mountains of Westeros (the Eyrie), which Jorah has never seen.

It also implied that Jaime will be played by one of the characters who went to war with King Richard in that movie. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Photos of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
who was also in that movie, is the next popular guess. He also fits two other previous clues supplied by GRRM: "two of them have been seen on American tv recently" Virtuality (2009). Also, he played Laertes in Hamlet, exclaiming about a "rose of May", which fits another of GRRM's clues: "Another has been seen wandering a castle exclaiming about roses"

I feel like I'm playing Sudoku! I love both these actors in their respective roles!

I'm no good at guessing these things, so am just waiting impatiently for an announcement!

I'd love to see Robert Davi as Ilyn Payne. For me, David Bradley is not physically imposing enough. In my mind, Payne is kinda old, but still vigorous enough to snick off someone's head at a moment's notice. I remember Davi's intensity playing various villains in cheesy 80's movies. I reckon he'd be awesome.

I like the idea of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau playing Jaime. I think he can pull him off.

I can't say I really noticed Vigo's accent changing throughout the course of the movies but if it did, it really isn't all that unusual for people to change their speech pattern depending on who they're with or where they are at a given moment. I know I speak one way at work and even that changes depending on who I'm interacting with (in the Courtroom I speak loud enough to be heard and with precision; talking to juveniles in my office - with a bit of local colloquialisms and more informal speech so I'm not talking over their head) and with some of my backwoods kinfolk I slip into a bit of a country drawl. We're all mimics and chameleons.

Nikolaj could do a very good job with Jaime. I have liked him in everything I've seen him in, which was only the two recent items (New Amsterdam and Virtuality). However, given how those two shows went down, Nikolaj has a kind of "showkiller" stigma attached to him at the moment. Fingers crossed it doesn't bleed into this.

Another sad part about that casting...it means the odds of Virtuality getting picked up for a full-on series run just got slimmer :( That show was excellent, thought proviking, full of potential and got the typical shallow Fox treatment. Gather your arms and assist in the "save Virtuality" web campaigns!

...or at the very least go find the 2hr pilot and give it a nice watch through.

I see Ian Glen as too old for Jorah.

Anyways, some confirmations as to who has NOT been cast:
Maester Luwin, Grand Maester Pycelle, the Hound, Ser Rodrik, Khal Drogo, Magister Illyrio, Gared, Will, Ser Waymar Royce, and Cersei Lannister

Funny, it seemed that most thought Cersei was one the roles cast.

HBO have announced that an additional seven castmembers have been added to A GAME OF THRONES.

Rising Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has been cast as Jaime Lannister. Coster-Waldau was most recently seen in the lead role in Ronald D. Moore's VIRTUALITY.

Tamzin Merchant as Danerys Targaryen. Merchant has just been starring as Katherine Howard in THE TUDORS.

Richard Madden as Robb Stark. Madden is an up-and-coming Scottish stage actor.

Iain Glen as Jorah Mormont. Glen is a veteran actor who recently played the role of Orestes in THE LAST LEGION (not a great film, but he was good in it) and King Richard in KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. A very sold and reliable choice.

Alfie Allen (brother of Lily) as Theon Greyjoy. Alfie Allen is another stage actor and the brother of British pop singer Lily Allen. He got some unwanted attention after his sister penned a humourous song about him on her first album, but has come into his own with some solid reviews after taking over the stage role of EQUUS from Daniel Radcliffe earlier this year.

Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark & Maisie Williams as Arya Stark. Newcomers.

HBO appoints subjects to 'Thrones'

Woah! Too much at once! I think Nikolaj Coster-Waldau looks great for Jaime, Tamzin looks okay for Danys but I'm concerned about the vast age difference in looks between Danys and Jorah. Madden and Allen seem great.

Can anyone post photos of Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams?
