Casting news from the TV series

So according to GRRM's Not a Blog, those left to cast are:

Bran
Jory
Hullen
Jeyne Poole
Septa Mordane
Maester Luwin
Ser Rodrik Cassel
Grand Maester Pycelle
Khal Drogo
Magister Illyrio
Gared, Will and Waymar Royce
Red-headed Whore?
Nameless Eunuch?

Rickon, Tommen, Myrcella and Beth will have non-speaking roles

Varys, Littlefinger, Tywin, Barristan, Renly, Stannis, Melissandre will not be in the pilot. That gives a clue that they will film to before the incident between Arya and Joffrey and the killing of Lady as both Renly and Barristan are there riding north to meet the royal party.

I suspect he is keeping a few surprises castings like Rheagar, Lyanna and Aerys in flashbacks.

They're filming up to the line: "The things I do for love." So the royal party hasn't even left Winterfell by the end of it. I imagine the episode after the pilot would end around the time of Bran's failed assassination attempt but that's just me.

Thanks Ghost. And with that cliffhanger ending (and best line in the series), the pilot should end brilliantly.

From what I gather, the red-headed whore is in a scene that is not in the series of Jaime walking in on Tyrion with a whore before they leave for Winterfell (or on the road), thus introducing the two brothers.

The Nameless Eunuch is in Illyrio's house or with Khal Drogo. It's either or, I think.

Just thought I'd come out of lurking to say YEEEEEES MATE GETTTTT IN, good ol' Sharpey boy as Eddard Stark. Reckon if he kept his real accent and just gave it a hint of blue-bloodedness it'd work nicely.
Realised this would be the best place to see whos playing who and I've got to say I'm pleasently surprised with most of the casting so far.

No Purple_Kathryn, all this casting has just been for the pilot episode which will only feature part of "A Game of Thrones" only - as Brienne doesn't appear until (A Storm of Swords is it?) then she has not and will not be cast until (hopefully) the series gets greenlit and even then probably not until the start of the third series.

It's also worth pointing out that, although the names cast so far have been generally met with enthusiasm, there is no guarantee whatsoever that they will continue in post should the pilot be picked up and a series commissioned. So Sean Bean/Eddard Stark may only be a pilot tease y'know :)

Brienne is in ACOK with Catelyn when Renly gets killed.

The latest rumor is they will likely pick up the series for at least one season.

Well it does seem to have a stellar cast. Or is it just me who thinks that? Is this cast perhaps pretty standard for a new HBO series?

I don't recall The Wire starting with a stellar cast (unless some of them were well known in US shows/films that weren't shown over here in the UK). I think the cast of The Sopranos may have been a bit better known.

All castmembers cast so far (courtesy of the Liftingfaces blog):

I don't recall The Wire starting with a stellar cast
Idris Elba (Stringer Bell), Dominic West (McNulty) and the Irish guy playing Mayor Carcetti were all veterans of various British TV shows (Elba had been a regular on Channel 5 soap Family Affairs, as well as one of the leads in the superb 1998 vampire mini-series Ultraviolet) before appearing in The Wire.

That is to say, they are good, solid acting talent (which shows): possibly having starred in little known programmes (in the wider world) or having played character/supporting parts in better-known stuff.

(As it happens, Aidan Gillen - whose character, Carcetti, was not introduced until Season Three - was on the TV the other day, playing one of the principal villains in Shanghai Knights.)

D'oh!

Blame my crappy memory

Looking at them all side by side, particularly the younger crop, I think they've done a good job. 'Robb' and 'Jon' look similar enough they could be half-brothers; 'Sansa' and 'Arya' look pretty dead-on; and 'Joffrey' really does look like he'd make you want to punch him in the back of the head five seconds after meeting him.
