Casting news from the TV series

Updated picture and cast list, since I can't change the one above (the picure is linked to the one on Liftingface's blog, so if he changes the pic again, the castmembers may not line up on it correctly).

All castmembers cast so far (courtesy of the Liftingfaces blog):

There was a script readthrough in Belfast today that went very well. Filming starts two weeks from today.

The prologue castings look great! Waymar looks lordly and arrogant enough, and the other two look very much the role of cast offs who end up at the wall. (too many ears though :) )

btw....Ros?!! I guess I must accept variations.

The character was named by GRRM, or at least he approved it, so I guess that's okay. There are characters called Roslyn or Rosalyn in the main series, so a shorthand version seems fair enough.

Grr. I got Arya and Sansa the wrong way around, and now can't go back and edit the post. Annoying.

when I scrolled up to look at the pics of Sansa and Arya I knew that immediately :)

HBO have confirmed Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark. GRRM has confirmed that the only speaking role not yet cast is Khal Drogo. Maester Luwin and Ilyrio Mopatis were the latest roles to be cast, but neither have been announced yet (although there are strong signs it might be Donald Sumpter as Luwin and Rome and the Dune mini-series' Ian McNeice as Ilyrio, the latter of which would just be brilliant casting).

Will the first season be based on the first book? I better get cracking and read it.

Yes. But it won't be on screen for a year or so. In fact, it's not even 100% certain it's going to go to series (although it's looking good so far). So you've got a bit of time left.

GRRM has confirmed all of those above and cast the last speaking role of Khal Drogo. It is Jason Momoa of the Stargate Atlantis series.

I must it looks like a "dream team" cast in many ways.
It makes you wonder how many of them will remain for the series if it gets picked up.

Some wonderful, wonderful character actors in there though (which I think you've got to have for emsemble dramas like this) so I am keeping everything crossed that this gets picked up and will have to hope Balerion visits the HBO offices if they don't :)

And as forecast by Werthead, Ian McNeice is Illyrio Mopatis and Donald Sumpter is Maester Luwin.

According to rumour (when I say 'rumour' I mean, 'his agent'), Aiden Gillen has apparently already talked to HBO about pursuing the role of Littlefinger should the pilot go to series. Gillen was the lead in Queer as Folk (original UK version) and was more recently seen as Tommy Carcetti in The Wire.

This is a totally awesome idea, another choice I don't think people were thinking about and then it comes up and it just seems perfect. I'm still thinking John Simm could be ideal, but Gillen could edge him out. Great idea.

Having seen Gillen's performance in The Wire, I think he could make a very good Littlefinger.

In any case, it's good to see another good actor wanting to be involved in the show.

This is the best news I've had in a long long while.

A series of ASOIAF and SEAN BEAN. I need to sleep now...

Interesting news that Jamie Bamber - Lee/Apollo from the new Battlestar Galactica - auditioned for the role of Jaime Lannister, obviously losing out to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

It's possible the casting directors will keep him in mind for other roles later on. Some people have already suggested he'd make a good Beric or Renly or, possibly a more demanding role, Littlefinger.

While I have much love for Jaime Bamber...I can't see him as Littlefinger. Too big/masculine, I imagine Littlefinger to be much more rat-like in his physique.

Anyone ever read the Belgariad/Mallorean (David Eddings)? For some reason i always imagined Littlefinger to look much like Silk does.

edit: sans giant nose ofc.

I never thought about it but yes I think Jamie Bamber would be excellent in both of those roles! He would have been good as Jaime I'm sure but I have trouble seeing him as such a *******.

There are pictures from Morocco on GRRM's blog, including some of him with some very lovely ladies. There is one I see as possibly Chattaya. Miaowwww...

Those ladies are the Pentosi dancing girls from Dany's wedding to Khal Drogo :)

Well, if that's the case, I am very much going to enjoy that eventual subscription to HBO. Wonder how many Dothraki wedding ceremony customs we shall see. Hopefully, all of them!
