Casting news from the TV series

I believe, Seraph, that they might opt to use the same scene but different shots/moments from it. You know, when they're riding there, the fight for it, Lyanna wailing. Things like that. And heck, you can have hours of fun with one soundclip of "Promise me, Ned!" playing off-screen.

There may be some more news on the casting, according to GRRM's blog:

Hiya, kids, hiya, hiya, hiya.

I know some cool stuff.

You don't.

And I can't tell you yet.

(Yes, I am a monster of inhuman cruelty).

Well, maybe I'll let slip a few things at the Montreal worldcon. Or maybe not. You'll have to ply me with booze and plunk my magic twanger, and we'll see.

Off on Tuesday...
I rather liked this comment on that blog entry:

I think it was this:

Jennifer Ehle - best known for playing Elizabeth Bennett in the BBC's definitive version of PRIDE & PREJUDICE (the Colin Firth one) - has been cast as Catelyn Stark in the adaptation.

Excellent choice. Ehle is one of our top-tier actresses with a very strong and varied career. I'm pretty sure she'll do brilliantly in the role.

Also very willing to get her boobs out - I remember the Camomile lawn (not in P & P although it might have made it more interesting)

HAHAHAHA! That just conjured up all sorts of ridiculous visions of Austen productions from the BBC.:D Good one! Masterpiece Theatre on PBS would never be the same...

According to friends at Worldcon, Jaime and Daenerys have also been cast. They will be announced hopefully soon.

According to GRRM, on his Not A Blog...

If Dany has been cast, it is news to me.

Maybe that just means that they have not just finalized the details of a contract... or maybe it means they don't have anyone yet.

And the casting of Jaime is not mentioned as being news.

(Which might mean anything, to be fair.)

From the producers in response to the question when will there be another announcement:

Very soon. Five major roles have been determined in the past week. The corkboard above our desks is filling up with photographs. We are halfway home.

Wert, as usual, you have my thanks. Now don't they start filming in October?

Sean bean, Dinklage and the kid they got for Jon all seem to be excellent fits for their roles. Though a personal choice for Tyrion would have been Michael Anderson for me (Samson from Carnivale...a show everyone should watch. Twice).

Are they going to be filming an entire first season when they start or just a pilot episode to see if HBO picks it up?

The current filming dates are 12 October to 6 November.

Just a pilot so far.

Martin posted twice on his Not A Blog today... the bottom line is that four more parts have been cast. In addition to the announced actors, HBO now has six more parts cast which they've not yet named the actors. These include Jaime and Theon.

So, here are the clues from GRRM's blog about those who have been casted (we know Jaime and Theon are two of them). The clues refer to actors and not characters:

In the absence of an announcement, I'll give you a few more clues. One cast member was played by a puppet. Another has been seen wandering a castle exclaiming about roses. A third is too good to be true. The fourth is the fifth. Esquire thinks one of them is hot.

Some of the speculation seems to be around "the fourth is the fifth" and a good suggestions was Mila Jovovich (the 5th Element) as Cersei or Melissandre.

There is also a suggestion that "wandering around a castle exclaiming about roses" is a reference to Ophelia and some of the suggestions here are Mariah Gale and Julia Stiles.

There are also suggestions of Alan Rickman, Claire Danes, Miranda Otto, Viggo Mortensen and Elizabeth Banks.

This is killing me...

I agree, I've been following the course of the suggestions and answers to the riddles on the edge of my seat! There has been a couple small developments, GRRM confirmed in one of the answers to his comments that two of the females that were cast were children and filled by unknowns. That leaves one more female actress and one unknown role.

Another of the more popular guesses I've seen for one of the roles is Tamzin Merchant, who played Henry's fifth wife in the Tudors. Many believe her to be playing Dany. Although I could see her as Sansa as well. Or perhaps Myrcella?

I truly hope that the role that is "too good to be true" refers to the actor cast as Jaime. I think his casting needs to be just right.

I found the suggestion of Viggo intriguing since he is of Danish descent and has a connection to Ned (i.e. Sean Bean). But who would play?

Jaime? Renly? Loras? Benjen?

I'm wishful thinking outloudly.
