The official ADWD "Pick the Announcement Date" thread

:(

Just had a message from Amazon uk. My pre order of ADWD has a new release date--Oct 10-14, 2011.

Sigh.

Haha... :)

I doubt it, too many other prediction failures (eg. World Cup prediction thread in the sports section and in real life, lotto numbers).

Despite what Amazon says, I'm still optimistic for Spring 2011 (to coincide with Game of Thrones show airing).

I wouldn't worry about that too much. I know I read on Martin's blog that nobody knows when ADWD will be finished; that his publisher will be the first to know, followed closely by the fans.

So how on earh Amazon managed the specifics of that date is beyond me (Oct 10-14? That's ridiculous!). I was told by a branch of bookstore at the turn of this year that ADWD was due on April 10, 2010. Apparently they can't just say - we don't know.

I hope the new date is just Amazon managing customer expectations, and covering their bum. But that's what they sent me!

Someone at Amazon UK must have gotten a ouija board for their birthday. There's no possible way that a date that far into the future could be based on informnation that is more credible than the results from playing with one of those.

Based on how many finished manuscript pages GRRM has completed and the "progress" that he's been making, it seems unlikely that the book will take another year to omcplete, but who knows. I don't think anyone but GRRM does, and he's not telling.

How about the 11th day and the 11th month, too.

November 11, 2011, at 11 a.m. (EST of course, therefore 4 p.m. for you guys on GMT).

Clanny, don't be such a pessamist. Pick tomorrow. (By the way, I love... and I mean LOOOOOOVE the Total War series.)

Okay... So I missed with August 7th. Dang it!!!! I really thought when I chose back in Jan/Feb that I was going to be spot on. My new guess will be Christmas Day 2010. Mark it down in red ink. I will win.

P.S. I've been working on the Grand Unified Theory of Everything... and, uh, well, it's harder to put together than I thought. I'll probably be paring it down and posting it into "Why say Tyrion's a Targ?" within the week.

You also have to put up a quote for "who said that: and something for the trivia game, unless you've done so recently.

My new prediction is September 3rd - for the theory from Boaz, anyway.

So we're five days deep in October. George is just back from Australia, admittedly sick, and heading off to Ireland in a few day's time. I'm guessing we've seen the last chance of an announcement date in 2010. Anyone else getting that feeling?

Going by Wert's information of a promised three-month turnaround, the earliest we'll see the printed book is in early January, though with no update on the actual writing for quite some time (and, with more travel, unlikely to be any in the foreseeable future) I'd say March or April is more likely. And that'd tie in nicely with the lauch of the television series. I am, however, going to stick with my (second) prediction of 22 May 2011, and assume we won't see the book until August 2011.

By the Seven, I hope I'm wrong...

I hope you're wrong but I fear that you're right.

LOL we should have a sweepstake. The winner gets a lollipop. I'm going for 4th April, 2011. There, I've committed myself in black and white now!

I'll go for 8th May 2011. Be nice to have an update from George to let us all know how the writings coming along but I'll not hold my breath!

Back on page 8 of this thread I chose May 11th, 2011. I'm still going with that.
