Nothing has changed except we've gotten no word/hint from GRRM in quite a while. Maybe I'm seeing the glass half full, but that coupled with his earlier progress says to me that something is coming , and it won't be next year.

It's not that I'm a pessimist, I'm just lowering my expectations so as not to be disappointed if the wait does continue. Plus it'll be a nice bonus when it is announced early.

I've said before on this site I honestly don't mind when the announcement is made. I'm not holding my breath in anticipation. Sooner would be better, but if it takes another year for George to finish it off, so be it. I'm only getting in early with my guess for next year, you know, just in case...

I called May 11th, 2011. At this point I don't even care . I think this will be the last book we get as well so I hope it's a good one!

I think I'm going to go for the 11th of July 2010 which is the date of the World Cup Final when England will lift the trophy on the same date as the book is finished!!
Not sure which one is most realistic! ha ha

Mr. Martin is well known for being optimistic in his predictions, therefore you will remain the chief suspect around here, GR... err, I mean, Imp.

Okay, since we are picking new dates (those of us who got screwed by GRRM working on Wild Cards), I pick Labour Day, 2010.

Spain would be mine if they weren't perennial chokers. They've been pretty much unstoppable since Euro 2008 qualifying.

Brazil not as good as they were before, nor are the Italians and the French.

It's out there for the taking. Argentina could scrape it with Aguero and Messi leading the line but they also have been choking regularly over the past few world cups.

England won't win, be a big achievement if they made it to the semis.

I'm shocked - I lost my net connection last thursday and have pretty much just got it back - and still no announcement! It seemed like sod's law that I would have missed the 'big moment'.

I see that Imp's window is all but up (which, as Boaz points out, doesn't prove a thing!). Pity though.

Clansman - picking a new date? Is this legal? Has the world gone mad?!

As for mention of the World Cup - how about this: I predicted, back in the '98 WC, that the USA would win the 2010 competition. Okay, it doesn't seem likely, but they'r a hard working side from what little I've seen of them and stranger things have happened. Maybe. Can't wait for the England/USA match. Should be fun.

Hmmm. I should have discussed the Olympic Hockey tournament here last February when I had the chance.

BTW, Canada won both men's and women's gold (Russia totally choked). Sydney Crosby's overtime goal in the final against the USA was one of those "national" moments.

Anyway, I think I've made my point.
