Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Thanks Boneman and Perpetual Man for putting me on your short list which is an achievement in itself.

Maybe we could have a vote on people who get on short lists and a second prize to that winner:eek:

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

It's quite strange, I'm just about to vote, and I suddenly realised that my three choices have a grand total of no votes between them...

One however has been driving me nuts, I did not know if I was seeing something that was not there, or if I was getting it on a level that no-one else was. In the end I realised it did not matter, as long as I could see something there, imagined or not, it gave me enjoyment and that was enough.

So my three choices: Cornelius, Precise Calibre and Ursa.

(And Ursa if I'm reading far too much into it there is one hell of a lot of coincidences in your story!)

Thanks for the vote, PM.

(And Ursa if I'm reading far too much into it there is one hell of a lot of coincidences in your story!)
We'll have to compare notes after the voting is over (which isn't for ages**). I'm quite prepared to believe there's more in the story than I intended.

** - I hope, because I haven't a clue for whom I'm going to vote, yet, if only because there's so much more to take into consideration with these longer stories.

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

And a big thank you to Allanon and Boneman for the mentions. :)

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Goodness, my head is spinning! It is hard to read all those stories, which go off in all kinds of directions and then try to determine which is better than a good one.

Runner's Up (Short List)

Brev -- The Lord in Waiting
Anne Martin --- Gemini Rising
Slack --- Cool Hands
Dusty Zebra --- The Last Thing

Receiving Votes

Teresa Edgerton --- A Fairy Tale Ending
Boneman --- Boxing Day Dinner
Storm Feather --- Precious Time

After that bout it is easy to see why many people choose to write and not vote.

Goodnight all.

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Thanks so much for the vote, Parson.

Cat's still under the hedge; he will let you stroke him, but won't move. And it looks like rain today, that might shift him. You kinda have to accept they know best...

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Well I hope the Cat recovers soon, you may have inspiration from it for your next 75 worder though right there!! Can you see it's back legs? There may be a problem there or is it an old Cat?

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

That, he said (unnecessarily as all here already know) was not easy, but I have voted. I've had to modify the spreadsheet categories; it din't work proper like with the larger format. Hopefully next quarter will be easier.

With vast effort I relegated stories I had really liked to outer darkness for reasons of punctuation, sentence structure, totally irrelevant in the larger scale of things, and was left with:-Allanon, Aun Doorback, Culhwch, HoopyFrood, Moonbat, Parson, Sapheron and The Judge, then started a new spreadsheet. The poll shows what came out of it.

I don't find three votes easier than one, at all.

Allanon has a point - he might not be moving as he might be in too much pain. One of mine broke his leg somehow, and he was a bu**er to shift from under the sofa as he was in too much pain. If he doesn't come in with the rain you may have to try and grab him and pull - if something is broken or hurt the sooner you can get him to the vet the better for all. I hope whatever it is, it gets resolved soon for you

On another note - Thanks for the mention Perp Man - totally happy with that!:) And Thank you so much for the vote Parson!! Totally unexpected but a great way to brighten up a gloomy Thursday.:D

Chris, Thanks for the mention.

Now, would any of you more techie than I explain about the "everyone can see who you voted for" part of this poll. All I see is what the person and the story they wrote was and how many votes they received. Am I missing a button or a click somewhere?

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Parson, I've not voted so it might look different, but if I click 'view poll results' I can see who's voted for who under the person's name.

Anyway, Perp told me something exciting had happened with this challenge. Three votes? A prize?! Coolness!! Thanks, Brian!

I need to read them all before I vote so I'll do that at some point.

You already voted. Yes? When you open the poll, it only gives a list of entries, with votes gained. Click on any number of votes that is brown (in my setup, anyway) meaning it has some non-zero number of votes. Now, all the voted for will gain an extra line, enumerating their benefactors.

Clear?

(Oh, I consider myself more techie than just about anyone, but that doesn't make me computer savvie.)

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Thanks, Mouse and Chris. It works for me now. I figured that there was something easy I was missing. I had to do it Chris' way because I had voted. My backside did not appreciate the multiple hours on my bench to do it either.

(Computer Savvie -- Would that be A&D ointment?)

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Well it looks like I'm not going to have to bear my ass, pimples and all, in Harrods window as I said Boneman would win.:)

It wouldn't have been a pretty sight, I can assure you.:)

We know the site can be attractive - window displays often are - but I don't share your confidence in the sight you were proposing.

* Why is the phrase, hair loom, swimming around Ursa's head...? *

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Haha, beat you to it and edited my mistake so your post makes no sense now!:)

I think everyone will be able to guess what it used to say. :)

(Besides, I won by 3 minutes. :))

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

What, the fact that I wrote site instead of sight. It's edited now, so no one will ever know except you and me.:)

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Well, I saw it before it was changed; but I'm a nice bloke (and easily bribed).

None of which is doing anything for the three-hundred word challenge (which Boneman has not yet won)

I suppose that, if you think that one entry is head and shoulders above all the others, (which I never have, not in the year the challenges have been running), all you can do is not use your other two votes; you certainly can't put more than one tick in your favourite's box. Which – oh, never mind, statistically it should even out if we get enough voters. Which we should, because now everyone can see who's slacking.

Ah yes, but my other half, split personality has 3 votes also. So I'll just sit here and wait for the final hurdle:)

Hope the Mods are not here...Damn, just realised you are one:eek:
