Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Bob, my support and best wishes. Looking forward to reading more from you soon.

Though I still a newbie here, and as everywhere I read much more than I actually post, I want to chime in with those who sat this was a really tough challenge.
I feel good that I finally got something together. Hope you like it.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

skipping with joy at finally having written a first draft of a story (which is likely to be totally discarded, but still . . . ).

Still not reading any other posted stories yet as that might shatter my fragile dreams, but I'm at my most hopeful after days of despair :D

You and me both TL, and I thought it was just me! I'm just gradually finding my feet around the site but then there's no rush... this is such a great place and I'm not going anywhere.

Tough challenge, oh yes, and all credit to Sir Chris for that. So no need for him to be too hard on himself, exceeding the word count happens to the best of us and I'm no stranger to that particular tee-shirt myself. I think it would only border on stupidity if the same mistake was repeated.

And yes, nice work with your story TL. :)

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

What is going here??? Dammit, the entries are becoming seriously gooder at every entry! I had it tagged as an 'easier' month to choose a winner, and it's getting harder and harder... STOPPIT!!!

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

I think this month is truly inspiring(demanding?) Some fairly AMAZING entries. So, for me, I think the deciding factor will have to be the theme. Just how each piece embodied (or perhaps did not quite embody) 'nourishment'. That and personal whim :p

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Crys - Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, taken metaphorically this catches the spirit of the fighting man, those that fight hard in the worst condition for the noblest of causes, no matter how they are seen by folks back home. I felt there was something tremendously honest in this piece, written beautifully with humour. Loved it.

Parson - And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son! A boy, a young man claiming rite of passage to manhood, either by hunger driven necessity or just the need to prove himself. I’m not sure whether our young protagonist would actually be judged a man, might not have even reached manhood as it seems he was eaten by a tiger. (Maybe not, maybe so). I loved some of the wording in this brilliant tale by Parson – his sling slung, the tiger sprung! Delicious

Well normally I would keep going until the end of the page, but I’ve run out of lines of the poem, I thought I’d draw a line under it and carry on with the later entries in a manner more fitting with what I’m accustomed. It’s been fun twisting, bending words and my mind to make it all fit, and all in all I’m quite happy with the results. I would not want to try and use a poem as a starting point for my comments every month. (Next month will not be Tennyson’s The Charge of the Light Brigade....)

But I heard there was talk of a new writing competition; into the valley of death wrote the 600..... words...

P.M. that was a "delicious" treat. You've caught all the nuances. I'm so pleased! Thank you.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

A play on Charge of the Light Brigade as is Boneman's -

"Half a league, Half A League, Half a League onward,
Into the Valley of Death rode the six hundred"

Or thereabouts ;)
