Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Even though Chris thinks his choice of theme was difficult, I have to agree with him that the quality of the entries has been exceptional. I'm with Cul when it comes to poetry - hopeless - which makes me even more amazed at some of the poetry that has been posted.

Nice entry from SF BTW - yet another slant on the theme. And well done Digs!

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Oh, but that's not unexpected from you, Karn. Perhaps it's not been quite so brief a time as fourteen minutes before, but this is far from the first time you've said you couldn't do it and then posted a story soon after. I, for one, never doubted that you would post something.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Well, it wasn't quite true that I didn't have anything then, TE. I had had the rough idea forming for a while and I was pretty surprised and happy to find it fit in with last month's theme....

I'm still surprised, however, that I pulled anything this month, seeing as how I really am not too familiar with Kipling and I'm surprised more that it was considered acceptably close enough to his style. I think the only part that was anything close to his style was the jungle setting and the name of the god I used was close to "Sher Kahn"....

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

I'd just like to say that the only reason it's looking highly unlikely I'll enter this month is as a courtesy to Perpetual Man, thus giving him (and, indeed, everyone) those precious minutes it would take to read and consider (and review, in PM's case) the story.

It's my gift of time to you all. Use it wisely. :)

Of course, I'll still be voting.

What an elegant way of saying you're going to chicken out. :D Hehe.

I did have one or two lined up, but, I'm not sure which I like best yet.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Would be a shame No One if you didnt enter.

If it helps then don't think of it as an entry , but as one step closer to gaining access to the 1000 Post Club Lounge.:D

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

If I'd known there was a lounge I would have posted more then read the last few years.

What? No-One is not entering? But... but... what about all the puns from his name, when No-One is entering it means that there are no entries at all, but inevitably there are.

But if no-one is not entering it's a double negative which makes a positive so he really should be entering...

I think.

Help

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

What a difference a few hours make! Just before I shut off the computer, digs was declaring that he had nothing. By the time I get back here, he's posted a story.
Behold the formidable power of the deadline!

I'm nothing if not elegant.

*burps, scratches butt*

Thanks PM (and Mosaix ;)) but I hope you're not suggesting I compromise the artistic integrity of the challenge solely for my post count!? Besides, I can do that here :D

The downside is that despite trying to help Perpetual Man, I've created some kind of maddening paradox instead! My apologies - it won't happen again.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

goldenapples I did wonder (just me going off on a tangent) that if a revolutionary revolted successfully, surely it would be his hands that constructed the writings. So how much truth would he attribute to himself?

Ah yes. The revolutionary's father would be the only person allowed to write a "now you are a man" poem under the new order. Although knowing how power corrupts, the father would probably be locked away because he'd be a constant reminder of the leader's mortality. ;)

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Well, I've roped yet another unsuspecting newbie into the challenge, after months of fast-talking him. This colleague of mine has finally finished his story/poem and I'll be helping him to post it when he gets back this afternoon. (He did manage to get registered last week, so we're on the right track.) Beware! :D

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

He's a stubborn old ...umm... man, and he's a salesman, so it was slow going! Err ... slow-going fast-talking. Yeah.

Re: DISCUSSION the 75 Word Challenge JUNE 2011

Well, my own slow-going fast-talking took all month, despite having a piece ready before the Challenge was officially open. I discounted it and another "soldier" poem as not being sufficiently story-like, and I couldn't get How The Dog Got His Dinner to anything near 75 words (opening line: Outside the great, grey-green greasy diner...).

We've still a few regulars to come, I think, even if No One is chickening out. I don't think we'll hit 50 this month, but we should get to the magic 42. An interesting Challenge, nonetheless. One which made me think very hard and resulted in a good collection of work from everyone -- and a lot less bloodthirsty than normal!

The entry I chose not to post would have more than satisfied any bloodlust you might have.
Although the one I posted drew inspiration from Kipling's poem The Vampire, so that should count for something.

Is that a reflection on Kipling or our notions of his writing style/subject matter? ;) :)
