Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

I thought all the stories were interesting this month. It seems the narrower the topic of the challenge the more variation we get in the stories.

Here are the honourable mentions

Brev: Poetic justice. I've always said these computer things will never catch on.

Moonbat: The loneliness of the long distance mission.

Perp: All true.

Alchemist: If only your robot walked the Earth today.

Saperon: The do say humanity creates the gods it needs. And William Willards World is all knowing: are we actually there.

Southron Sword: That's what the public want, single minded destructive power unswayed by minor irritations.

Hoopy: A Robots Gideon?

Boneman: Very romantic. (Love is never having to say goodbye)

telford: If only they could have ended it like that. Say at episode three

Parson: If only you had had enough words to include the champagne.

digs: Cruel separation.

Culhwch: When it comes down to it. We humans couldn't give a fig for the finer qualities.

My vote went to Sapheron. I like the idea of an all knowing entity on the planet.

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Thanks for the mention TEiN

(Hopefully I'll finish my comments today or tomorrow and then I can start thinking about voting... 4.40 starts seems to throw off one's day a little :))

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Wow, thanks TEin. Praise from Caesar.

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

I voted for Slack's War Stories for beautiful, evocative writing.

Honourable mentions went to:
- Paranoid Marvin's Robot Messiah - great ending;
- RJM Corbert's Rowing Robot - there was just something about it!; and
- digs' Proxy - which has already jumped into the lead!

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Thanks for the honourable mention HJ.

As for my vote, well I thought that Moonbat's fantastic entry would remain unsurpassed.. and it was until the 11th hour (well 10.44 to be precise) when Ursa's was posted. UM wins hands down with a tale that can be interpreted on many levels; quite chilling really.

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Thanks for the vote and the praise, PM. :):)

I quickly read through the previously posted entries just before I posted, to see whether anyone had a similar (or too similar a) story, and was immediately impressed by the standard achieved this month. Given the competition, I'd have been more than satisfied with one or two honourable mentions, so a vote is definitely icing on the cake.

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

I got a vote! Many, many thanks, Hoopy. Thanks also to TEiN for the mention, and Perp Man for the good review. That's this month's target reached, so roll on August!;)

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

That sounds, to me, like encouraging a quid sin....

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

So many great entries this month (as always!). My short list just happens to be.

Arkose: This story reminded me very strongly about the impermanence of things and how we as a consumer society so readily toss things aside for the newer "better" model the second it hits the market.

Brev: If only because when I was working toward a Tool & Die certification how our instructors impressed upon us time and again the need for flexibility and to keep up with a changing industry. Robotic Welding class may of been fun but it was surprisingly limited!

Perpetual Man: Chilling!

Leisha: The next step in the evolution of the Real Doll?

TheDustyZebra: Maybe its my own messed up past but the kid who used to sit in his room and cry at night cheer for this one.

All great in their own way and all so varied. However after reading Proxy by Digs I knew right away that is what I would be voting for and for the reasons I stated in a previous post. I still haven't gotten it out of my mind since reading it the other day. so good luck Digs!

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Having only managed to come up with my vote last night after midnight, I thought I would wait till daylight to post my lists -- so here are the shortlist, the shorter list, and the already-revealed *vote*.

Teresa -- For Fear of Little Men
Galaxy -- Before the Laws
Highlander -- Jonny's Friend
RJM Corbet -- Rowing Robot
Chrispy -- Go Stick Your Head in a Pig
Brev -- One Day at the Factory
Starbeast -- Death Program
*Moonbat -- The Lonesome Death of Spirit the Mars Rover*
Alchemist -- Purification
Chel -- Lovestory.exe
Harebrain -- Mongolian Death Robot
TJ -- The Planetary Tales - Retribution
Devil's Advocate -- The Last Protocol
Boneman -- Why Robot.
Telford -- Revenge is a dish best served...

It was unusual in that I had absolutely no idea whom I would vote for after I had the shortlist in place. That's why it was after midnight when I finally made it!

Edited to add: Thanks for the mention, MstrTal, and the vote, Mouse!

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

This month, I enjoyed stories by, amongst others, Slack, Perpetual man, TEiN, HoopyFrood, Silvio dante, Chel, HareBrain, Telford

I had a shortlist of...

moonbat
TDZ
Greenkidx
digs

And after much mental gymnastics, my vote goes to Greenkidx. Good job!

(and thanks for the mention, TDZ)

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

DustyZebra

Thanks for the mention - and onto your shorter list as well! Very happy with that!

I too read through them all again and cut it down to a short list of:-

Brev
Perpetual man
Alchemist
TheEndisNigh *
Boneman

before I selected the *'ed story.

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Another month already done! For me at least, summer races by.

I love reading everyone's stories and learning from them in so many ways.

For what it's worth my short list was comprised of entries that I thought were the most creative. That's just my two cents worth tho.

Platty
Moonbat
Hoopy
Leisha
The Judge

After some thought I'm giving my vote to MoonBat. The story was so original and yet also fit the challenge perfectly.

Can't wait to see what's next. Thank you, Chrons!

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Thanks for the mention TEIN, a very pleasant way to end the Lord's Day. :D

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Highlander:

Truly, you are a prince amongst men.

Thanks for the vote.

I would describe joy it gave me, but talk of somersaults and skipping and shouts of whhoooopeeeee are so undignified.

Oops - Aaaahhh.. Errrrmmmmhhh... Sorry about that!

Thank you Mosaix for the vote! There are so many good stories this month, just gad you picked mine - and this is just my second attempt here! Fingers crossed for the 300-worder...

It has just made Monday morning that bit more appealing...
