Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Incredible - I go away from computers for a day and a half, and come back to find three more votes. Thank you so much Devil's Advocate, The Spurring Platty and Bob S,Sr it feels wonderful to receive your approbation, and it is very much appreciated. :D

I'm just off to spend some more time away...

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

We could even have a someone...

"I knew I wanted to vote for someone, but everyone's was so good, it made it so hard, but in the end I chose no-one"

Ahem

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Don't forget: "Nobody's ahead in this months voting."

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Have managed to steal a few precious moments away from the family holiday to find an internet connection and squeeze in my vote!

Not easy, as I’m having to speed read and decided in a very short space of time, but my initial short list is:

Highlander
Moonbat
Perpetual Man
Alchemist
Sapheron
Greenkidx
TEIN
Leisha
TDZ
Digs
The Judge
Culhwch

And . . . . . . . . .

The rest were all fab, and I nearly had to do eeny meeny miny mo to make my decision, but in the end my vote has gone to The Judge. Whether intended or not, as I read the poem I was reminded of Blade Runner, and especially the final moments of Roy Batty as he describes the sights he’s seen. Powerful and evocative stuff Judge!

Thanks to all who have mentioned me – much appreciated I can assure you!!

Right, off to help hubby put the kids to bed and relax in the lovely Devonshire countryside with a glass of something alcoholic! Catch up with you all soon!

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Well it took me all my time to decide who to vote for, never mind a shortlist.

Apart from my own fantastic offering which was crafted with the inspiration of angels. My vote goes to the princess of Chrons, Teresa wrote a great story.

Sorry about my modesty but it seems its only me who likes me - Damn!

Off for more therapy:eek:

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Thank you, Gary! And thanks to everyone who mentioned my story.

My mind is so disorganized this month, I almost forgot to vote. (I did remember that it was the day to close the voting, though. It just took a while for me to put those two ideas together.)

Anyway, here is my short list:

paranoid marvin
Aun Doorback
slack
The Spurring Platty
TheEndIsNigh
GreenKidx
Anne Martin
Culhwch
digs
Leisha
The Judge
Ursa major

and my vote went to Leisha.

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Have had to speed read everyone's entry tonight, having nearly forgotten to vote. I didn't make a short list, but it came down to the two which had most impact on me when I first read them -- TDZ's Deus ex Machina and Anne Martin's Decommisioning, and TDZ's just sneaked in.

Not been around much all week, so only just caught up with the last umpteen pages here (also speed read) -- many thanks for the short list mentions, which is more than I thought I'd get this month as I was sadly lacking in inspiration, (and apologies for not thanking by name but you know who you are) and mega thanks to Perpetual Man and Stormfeather for the votes which were wholly unexpected!!

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

We could even have a someone...

"I knew I wanted to vote for someone, but everyone's was so good, it made it so hard, but in the end I chose no-one"

Ahem

If no one said something to some one, wouldn't everyone think that was strange? :D

In any case, some one - i.e: no one - is flabbergasted to get a vote. Many thanks Cul!

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

:eek::eek::eek:

Am I too late? I hope I'm not! I better re-read all the entries quickly and decide who to vote for...

Sorry I'm late! I've been away for a few days at Seph's summer school graduation (which he passed with all As!), and today I haven't even had a chance to rest, let alone go on the computer!

Oh, and the mentions and votes(!!!) shocked me. I never realised my story would get liked as much as it has, cos I had to throw it together in the only times I'm allowed to write, and I was a little confused and out-of-touch as to when the challenged ended (for some reason I thought it was the end of the month when I put my story in... Yes, I'm a bit silly sometimes).

So... thank you! This is a very nice surprise.

Right, I'll go offliine to read the entries and decide...

Good luck, everyone! (Or "No One"? :D)

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

As ever, a wide range of stories, some humorous, others sad. And speaking of the latter, it's a shame I have only room for eight stories on my list. (Then again, it always is a shame.) Anyway, here's the result of the Ursa jury:

Honourable Mentions:
  • And The Rest is alt.history by mosaix
  • Go stick your head in a pig by chrispenycate
  • The Last Supplicant by No One
  • Robot Genesis by Perpetual Man
Runners Up:
  • The Lonesome Death of Spirit the Mars Rover by Moonbat
  • The Progress of Science by Leisha
  • The Planetary Tales -- Retribution by The Judge
Winner:
  • Jonny's Friend by Highlander. (I can't give it higher praise than, "Woof!" ;):))

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Many thanks to vector7 and No One for the votes, and for all the mentions as well!

My vote went to No One. And not just because he voted for me. He also paid me handsomely as well...

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Another mention! Thanks, Ursa. :):):)

Okay. Rushing... rushing...!

Short list:

Mosaix, No One, alchemist, GreenKidx, HoopyFrood, Boneman, TheDustyZebra, StormFeather, Ursa, and Culhwch.

Winner: Hoopy What a great, quirky tale! It made me laugh and was so wholly unexpected. It very much appeals to the geeky side of me.

Oops... better vote for it, then! Almost forgot!

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Only minutes left to vote. (For those who are as absent-minded as I was.)

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

Many thanks to the kindly souls for the mentions. Within this rarified writing environment it is indeed most humbling. Ta.

I'm a tremendous fan of the 1960's Lost in Space series, I thought your story was shockingly funny. :D
I knew Dr Smith would get his "just deserts" sooner or later.

Re: Discussion July 75 Word Writing Challenge

And the winner is:
Moonbat!

Now the anticipation builds for next month's theme ...
