Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Congrats TDZ. And thanks to No One and TEiN for the shorts.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

AAAAAAAAA (thump thump thump) AAAAAAAAAAAA!

That's the sound of me screaming and jumping up and down!

Thanks to Parson and TJ for the votes, and TheTomG, Aun Doorback and No One for the mentions, and I hope I haven't fallen behind and forgotten anyone in all the excitement. I'd also like to thank the academy (whichever one you like) and all the little people (I guess that would be my kids, not the dwarves, elves and goblins) and my mother, who would never have bought me unicorn notebooks when I was little if she'd known what I'd grow up to write about them. And Mouse, whom it appears I have channeled this month without realizing it. :D And Perpetual Man, for a nail-biting race -- very well done!

Vote to TDZ and Unbridled Lust -- I'd quite happily have voted for the title alone which is brilliant!

Thanks also for that, TJ -- I was quite pleased with that title! Usually some horrendously punny title occurs to me as soon as I finish the story, and only once did I have a title before I wrote the story to go with it, but this time nothing was there and I had to go wandering through Thesaurus.com on numerous tracks before I saw "unbridled" somewhere and knew it was the one. :D

I have an idea for a theme, but I have to run it by the mods to see if it can be done. Bwahahahaha!

Thanks again to everyone, and I'm on cloud nine, whoopeeee!

Congrats Dusty Z, I had thought of voting for your story but I thought the Parson might be watching. I went to a Catholic grade school for 8 years and had my knuckles slapped with a ruler and mouth washed out with soap so many times that I had to forget words like LUST. (and others that sometimes slip out, no matter how deep they are buried) Anyway, only kidding, well deserved win. Can hardly wait for the horny pumpkin challenge.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Congrats Dusty Z ---- I have to admit from the moment I read your entry I thought that's a winner. Even a parson had to chuckle about your "other horn."

"Channeling Mouse" I laughed out loud over that one!!

Bob Sr. ---- Honestly, this Parson voted for Unbridled Lust, WWWWait a minute, Did I just say that??? I mean I voted for Dusty Zebra's take on a fairy tale creation by putting a twist on the horn. :)oI think I'd better stop typing now, before I have to find a priest.)

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

What a race! So close but that Zebra (or Unicorn) just had that extra burst to win at the end. (Must have been that horn just stretching across the line!)

Seriously a worthy winner, congratulations to TDZ, I can't wait to see what you come up with, but I'm sure it will be fun.

Thanks to everyone who voted and mentioned me, it is greatly appreciated.

Once again well done TDZ

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Well done TDZ! As you know, I loved your story. I can't get the image of those tapestries with unicorns on them out of my mind. You know how the unicorn always looks a bit sinister, as if it has a knowing smile? Before, I always thought that was something to do with weaving -- now I know better.

That was a nail-biting finish!

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Big congratulations to TDZ and big commiserations to Perp Man on th intriguing race.

To October!!

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Congratulations, TDZ on a close fought win and commiserations Perp.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

I have to be brutally honest here - I was determined not to vote for TJ, simply because she's garnered so many of my votes before!
Eek! Mutiny in the Challenge! *checks out available punishments * Hmmm... keel-hauling sounds fun...

Ooooh -- only two more posts and it's Critiques time for No One -- so no need for the keel-hauling after all...

...I, Robert gets my vote. Just too good.
Thank goodness for discipline and common sense! :p :D

Big thanks, No One!! And big thanks Ursa!! I didn't expect to see those votes this morning -- and they were both very gratifying.

Congratulations to TDZ -- I thought the story was a winner from the get-go! Commiserations to Perp.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Many Congratulations, TDZ. :):)

And commiserations to Perp.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Well done Dusty, brilliant story.
And well done Perp for such a close run contest,
Well done everyone for entering, another marvelous month of mini-stories.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Thanks also for that, TJ -- I was quite pleased with that title! Usually some horrendously punny title occurs to me as soon as I finish the story, Thanks again to everyone, and I'm on cloud nine, whoopeeee!

Shouldn't that be 'some horrendously pony title'? Many congrats TDZ, you should be on cloud nine, it was well-deserved. And congrats also to Perpetual man for such a close race.

Can we have three votes for Halloween month? Please?

Oops, I see I'm approaching 2,000 posts. (mutters something about preparing a piece for public display and mutilation...)

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Congratulations TDZ.

I sort of had another story that I tried to get right for last month and this but I couldn't get an ending I was happy with.

Ring a ring o roses.
Why are those children in my bedroom?
A pocket full of posies.
My bed soaked with sweat, the lights fade but still I see them.
Atishoo, Atishoo
I can feel myself slipping away. The smallest child turns with a malice smile.
You fall down.

The doctor turns “The hallucinations seem to be similar at the end”
“Can you hear children?”

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

I had another too, but I wasn't sure how well known that poem 'All for the want of a horse shoe nail' was:

For the want of a nail

Up since four. Forge blasting. Endless horses. I'm nothing now but hooves and hammering -- four hooves, six nails -- move over, you lump -- and the next -- this one, he's a right sod -- big and strong and overexcited - some knight's destrier -- last hoof now, get over. Shift, damn you. Ach. Out of nails. Could get more -- could just stop and sleep. One nail. What's it going to matter?

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Sorry Ursa did it in the style of a Eurovision Song Contest Jury (although they use phone voting now)- Azaibaijan the country that won this year the joke was it was the only country that could afford to host it in 2012.

Actually AnyaKimlin, I think you may have a point here. Could the unicorn in the (very worthy) winning entry be an update on 'My Lovely Horse'???? I think we should be told ...

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Well done TDZ! :) - I actually managed to pick the winner this time though it was run very close at the end!

Look forward to your choice for October!

Well done too Perp for making it a good two horse/unicorn race!

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Or is that Zebra/Unicorn and a horse race?

Thanks to everyone for all their mentions, it is appreciated. Nail biting stuff eh?
