Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Congratulations to the Dusty Zebra. Thoroughly deserved.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

I like that story, nixie -- as you say, the last line itself isn't quite there, but it's very chilling.

I like yours too, Hex. Being finickety, I'm not sure it's SFF, but I think the voice is very well done -- in an open Challenge it would have made my short list.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Nearly forgot, here is my alternate entry in all it's glory (or not as the case might be)

The town was ravaged by the armoured Imperial soldiers.
All that remained, a church, a priest on his knees.
Captain Colthaar pointed at the curtain across a secluded alcove.
"And this holds your divine Truth?"
"It tells of Creation, the birth of stars, the formation of worlds; all things."
With a violent motion Colthaar tore the curtain down, revealing an empty room of cold stone.
"There is nothing here!"
The priest smiled, "There is.
“Faith."

perp - I really like that. Its amazing that in 75 words, you can really paint a picture of a dramatic scene.Pace was excellent. I felt like an eye witness.
It's why I enjoy this challenge and hopefully helps us with our main writing.

Great action - I fear for the priest though!

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Thanks to TomG and TheEndIsNigh for the mention and to Perp for the kind review.:)

Congrats to TDZ on the win.:D

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Well done TDZ - sometimes things really are black and white!

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Way to go Dusty Zebra, I am looking forward to October's theme; I definitely have the bug! I would also like to thank Stormfeather for the (not so) short list mention, it was very much appreciated. And a big thank you to hubby for giving me his vote; I did tell him he did not have to vote for me, honest!

Alchemist - This was so well written, and the dialogue was so sharp.

I forgot to say, thanks for the mini-review Hex, and thanks to anyone else who gave me mentions. It's very much appreciated.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Congrats to TDZ, and thanks to Alchemist, Moonbat, and No One for mentions, and Perp (as always) for the review.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Ooh, I got shortlisted! THREE times!:)

Thanks, peeps.

I'd also like to thank my make-up people, the director, my mother, the cat........:D

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

The cat! Darn it, I forgot the cat! Oh well, he didn't even like my story....

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Well, he shouldn't criticize my story next time, then. "Meow" indeed. Hmph!

Karn, I think you'll like my theme when you see it tomorrow -- you ought to be able to fit one or more of those ideas into this one! :D

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Excited about seeing the new theme! The great thing about this contest is it has so many enjoyable points in time - the unveiling of the new theme, the writing and contributing, the reading and enjoying, the discussing then the voting, the waiting to see who wins, celebrating who wins.... and then it all starts over again! Definitely my favorite thing on the web right now.

Congratulations TDZ, and looking forward to seeing what you set for us!

Whoa!!!!

The implications of those five words are massive.

Firstly, and most obvious, the apparent fact that this site, is not the only site you look at. A blatant admission IMO that should be investigated by the membership commission.

Secondly, the hidden implication that you are prepared to abandon this site, should you, in your casual wandering around the websphere, discover a site which, in your opinion is better, would be prepared to abandon us to our fate in a "pah let them rot in their pits" manner.

Thirdly, the suggestion implied by the 'web right now' that there are times that you desert your post (strapped into your chair) and wander of into, what can only be described as 'the none virtual world' I.E. real life. Truly an amazing achievement, requiring great force of will and intestinal fortitude (going cold turkey - though preferably cooked), but an activity banned under the constitution of the site, for which the punishment can be anything from a SLAP, to the removal of life support (your chair and facilities).

Finally, it goes a long way to show what a sad case I am: Sad enough that I can see a few throw away words at the end of someones post and write a diatribe on it's implications: especially given the time of day. In my defence I will draw attention to my own personal circumstances, strapped as I am into my chair, the feeding tubes and waste disposal system whirring and churning in the background as it is.

Which all goes to prove, we are all desperate to be at Octobers challenge, so bring it TDZ

Oh, and congrats on your win by the way.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Congrats, TDZ!

And well done to Perp too, of course. I was expecting a tiebreaker poll!

Thanks Chel.

But a tiebreaker poll? I've done one of those before - it took months for my nails to grow back. I don't know if I could have gone through that again. :D
