The Winds of Winter publishing date guesses?

I am half tempted to go back and see what my original guess was, but I am pretty sure that timeline has already passed us by.

my naiveté was astounding. I think Anushka will probably prove correct and I hope (with what little hopes had not been crushed) that she is erring on the side of caution.

Interesting reading back through this thread from the beginning. Anushka, you most certainly did, it was Jan 27th 2014 when you guessed 2017. Many of us had already guessed by then, my estimate was placed in Feb 2012 and I went for 2016, so I'm slowly running out of time! The majority of guesses back at that point were going for late 2014 or 2015. Mesanna was first to guess 2017 back in Feb 2012.

Mine was spring 2016, I will stand by that estimation... oh wait...

A year ago we were hoping George would have WoW finished well before this year's GOT TV season aired and overtook him. Now we are hoping it comes out before next year's season so we can see how different the story so far is. And so he can get on to starting the next (last) one..
Surely he has to get the thing out by March 2017.. I will make that my guess now, I think I said spring 2016 before.

Possible, possible. I don't think I was entirely serious when I made that prediction though.

@ArstenWhitebeard I certainly thought I was erring on the safe side back then.

@Pedro Del Mar I think I will stick with just Spring 2017. It would be too hard for me to refine that guess.

December 2016 would be a smart move on Martin's part (what with the holidays and all) but I doubt it will be the case. I will bump my original guess by a year (thank you Pedro for looking that up) and say early 2017. shot in the dark, February of 2017. (I know, its risky since February is the shortest month, but I stand by it).

I chose December 5th, 2016 which I doubt will happen. My real guess is still Never.

I don't think it has anything to do with his side interests, either. Everyone has more than one interest, especially outside of their job. I think the guy is just seriously burned out and uninterested in writing the story anymore. And that's ok. It's unfortunate that so many people are waiting on the products of his job but, oh well, burning out happens to everyone.

Can't wait for the show to finish it off!

I learned my lesson when we were trying to predict when A Dance with Dragons was going to be published. Also, if someone from the future told me in July of 2011 debt five years would go by without the publication of the Winds of Winter I never would have believed it.

Based on the above, my prediction is we have no freaking idea and the book will be published when it's published. I'm hoping for the end of this year or early next year but I wouldn't count on it.

Don't shout at me, but I'm going to say.. November 2017.

I really think that now the pressure of beating the TV series is out of the picture, the foot will come off the accelerator a bit. Maybe revisit bits and pieces he was [possibly] rushing due to that pressure.

Once the TV got ahead of the books, I think we lose the biggest motivator pushing the author. So I think there's going to be a lot more waiting ahead of us.

It's remarkable how anticipation and speculation about TWoW has fallen off. Back when readers were waiting for ADWD, the internet was abuzz with impatient expectation. Whole websites were devoted to the wait. The media relentlessly badgered Martin with questions about dates. Other than a bit of speculation here and there at places like this site, I don't come across any of the buzz and anticipation that built between AFWC and ADWD.

Have most fans of the books simply resigned themselves to the likelihood this series will never be finished and moved on? Or do they now regard the TV series as the medium for revealing the story?

I wouldn't have thought many fans are resigning themselves to it never being finished. But the more this book drags on the riskier the final release becomes. I would hope the final book is a little easier to write, if he knows the main characters basic endings, as most of the complex journey is done.

one would hope fpr a spring 2017 release date for TWOW, but if that doesn't happen, we can start truly expecting the worst about wether the final book will ever see a release. Cause if TWOW is not released in the foreseeable future, i don't see GRRM genuinely actively start on the last one when the time comes.

Personally, my enjoyment of AFFC and ADWD wasn't anywhere near as high as the previous books. This was mainly down to the introduction of the other POV characters which I felt were unnecessary and a distraction from the main storyline. I will read TWOW and I'm hoping it's an improvement and not anything like the previous two.
