World Fantasy convention 2013

Book a pub?!?! What is the world coming to? THIS* is why I don't drink.

* not true

For anyone attending WFC who wants to come along and heckle/laugh at my feeble attempts to imitate a professional writer/editor/publisher, they can do so at the following (assuming the schedule doesn't change in the meantime). These are the things I'm due to be taking part in during the convention weekend:

Thursday 31/10,
8.00 to 9.30: David Gemmell Legend Awards Ceremony
9.30 to 10.30: Legends anthology launch and signing, the Regency Suite (Joe Abercrombie, James Barclay, Jonathan Green, Juliet E McKenna, Anne Nicholls, Stan Nicholls, Gaie Sebold, Jan Siegel, Adrian Tchaikovsky, and me, plus cover artist Dominic Harman)

Friday 1/11,
Noon to 1.00 Panel: "The Next Generation" Size Doesn’t Matter: How to Survive as an Independent Press, the Cambridge
(I'll have to split myself in two here, since I'm also due to be at the Alchemy Press launch of the Urban Mythic anthology, which features my story "Default Reactions", at the same time).
5.00 to 6.00: Tanith Lee Interview: To mark Tanith receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Saturday 2/11,
11.00 to noon: NewCon Press launch, Signing Alley by Halls 8A and 8B (launching Shake Me to Wake Me by Stan Nicholls, Colder Greyer Stones by Tanith Lee, and Twember by Steve Rasnic Tem. All authors plus cover artists Ben Baldwin and John Kaiine will be there, as will several of the Legends authors, for those who missed them. I'm sharing this launch with Kim Lakin Smith, who is launching her new novel Autodrome).
3.30 to 4.30: just me, signing at the Solaris table in the dealers room.

Or, of course, at other times you could always come along and say 'hi' at the NewCon Press table in the dealers room or in the bar.

Can't believe how close it's getting now! :)

Looks like you are going to be busy, Ian.

Can I ask is there a list anywhere of book launches and signings? I can't see any on the main program, unless I am being my usual dumb self. :D

No list that I know of*, but that's because, like the kaffeethingumies, they aren't part of the main program.

*Ofc mayhap we're being blind together :D

My understanding is that there is going to be secondary list of events not included in the main programme (such as signing events, kaffeeklatsches, readings, etc) released in the next few days.

So, do we know exactly who is coming, and who is around for lurking and meeting up on Saturday but not for the convention itself? Should we see if we can arrange a place where Chronners can keep an eye out for other Chronners? (an all-the-time place, I mean, not a book signing -- fun as those sound)

So: I'm there from late Thursday to the middle of Sunday, and at the convention. I'd love to meet up with everyone on Saturday. I'll be the one wearing the same clothes the whole time because I'm too cheap to pay for hold luggage on the plane.

I have a pub tip for Saturday evening -- the Hop Poles is close to the hotel and is really nice. Can't guarantee it won't be packed later on, but if some of us get there early enough we can stake out a corner.

I will be outside (somewhere). Using my senior citizen's bus pass I can get to Brighton for free (takes two hours, but I've got my Kindle); it's just that the last bus home is far too early, so a train will be indicated (I might be able to get my nephew to get me there in exchange for petrol money, but only once).

Males have advantages in the clothing department; I can put two changes into a shoulder bag, with computer, notepad and toothbrush; a weekend without hold baggage (might be a bit different now with the number of pills I'm absorbing – find me by listening for maracas).

Thanks HB; I'll put that in my planning.

For those Patrick Rothfuss fans attending WFC, this came up on my Twitter feed just now:

@BrightonWstones: PATRICK ROTHFUSS is coming to #BrightonWstones!! 31st Oct 7.30PM tickets free but strictly limited. Phone 01273 206017 to get yours - hurry!

Thanks Lucian!! Just saw this and managed to get a ticket, brilliant!:D:D There are a very few left...

I will be standing next to Hex. In fresh clothes. :) i booked luggage space.

Can I stand (or sit - I'm lazy) with you both? I live close enough to bring clean clothes for each day...

I will be arriving around midday on Thursday, and leaving around midday on Sunday.

I'll be arriving very very early on Friday and may never leave. But if I do decide to go, I've booked a flight for Sunday afternoon.

It looks good. Quirky, too. No dragon's head behind the bar, or hobbits passing through, but you can't have everything.

So.... When in doubt trust an Irish woman to arrange the party. For Saturday night we have:

Me
Kr green
Hex
All standing in a corner together

Harebrain, herding the corner of a nice bar

Alc ( I suspect with the the Hex/ Springs pot plant corner (hey, follow me and Hex for a party!)

Lauren 77? Are you joining us?

Boneman?

IBrian?

Lucien poll - I know the lure of the ghost stories is big but we'd love to meet you. (Dang I sort of hate missing them, but would hate missing Chrispy more. Sorted...)

Chrispy - with Harebrain in the bar

Glitch? Surely needed for a party?

Kmq/ Anne Lyle might be too busy? But if not very welcome.

Anyone else? A show of hands from conners/ Chronners? insert here... Ian? Sjab? Crystal?

Conners - place to meet? Foyer? Time - dinner first? Maybe seven?

Non conners - meet at Harebrain's bar at about 7.30?

Sound good? *

*can you all tell I really am a management consultant now? :D
