World Fantasy convention 2013

Am not planning to make that mistake at WFC. :)

I fancy going as I have never been to a convention. Will you be my style guru?:)

Just to warn you I went into a local suit shop in Blyth and said, "Have you got a 3-piece that would fit me?"

The sales assistant looked dumb and replied, "If I have the tailor is sacked."

Size 11's required and a Billy Smarts re-cycled black tent with silver studs and a psychedelic pattern to it would do!!

Haha!!

A lot of people were dressed for Steampunk at Eastercon and I felt embarrassingly under-dressed. Am not planning to make that mistake at WFC. :)

I wasn't particularly planning to be dressed up

Not to worry, while lots do dress up, lots don't. I'm a jeans and geek tshirt kinda gal.

Sounds like a good idea :)

Besides, I thought Brian was supplying matching outfits so we can all advertise the site  We can all have a big letter on our backs to spell out the url when we stand in a line

It's from one of my DJ sets - I do rock nights in the Highlands because there aren't any rock clubs. I am also becoming very good at putting on weight. :)

I was going to ask if you were Mr C from The Shamen. I'm disappointed now :(

Likewise for the steampunk clothes. I might print a t-shirt with my avatar, just for the craic.

Actually, there is a cheap and practical thing that Brian could do, and that's provide something (possibly a brightly colored sticker) that people can afix to their name badges. That way, Chrons members can identify each other from a distance, and other people can peer at their badges and say, "What's sffchronicles?" thereby inviting an enthusiastic explanation.

Either that, or a second badge to be worn along with the official convention one, with the name and logo of the site, and a blank space for people to write their user names.

Many, many decades ago, when I attended a WFC, there was something like that for the (late, and much lamented) online science fiction and fantasy group I belonged to at the time, and people had an absolutely wonderful time finding each other.

I wish I could be there and meet all of you.

Very interesting. Will think on this. :)

What about t-shirts with, "I'm a Chronite," on the front and, "Don't inform the authorities," and web address on the back:eek:

We should all stick together.

I fancy going but its sold out - however - I have ways round this, practiced over many years. ( gets bolt cutters out from under stairs)

Even if the events are sold out, am sure the evenings will be spent drinking and eating elsewhere - plenty of opportunities to socialise outside of the conference directly, I'm sure. :)

I think fate has played her hand.:) Maybe the next convention I will frequent!

Sounds like fun - I will try to get ticket for 2013.

Eastercon and WFC are very different animals. Eastercon is the only "bookish" con I go to where substantial numbers of people do dress up (whether steampunk style or the more traditional Klingon/Cyberman/Sealed Knot/whatever). In contrast, WFC is very much a "professional publishing" convention, so although I've never been to one, I anticipate that "smart casual" will probably be a bit nearer the standard dress code. Very few people dress up for normal (ie. not World Fantasy) FantasyCon unless they are "professional Goths" like Anne Sudworth :)

(Just to be clear - FantasyCon is the annual BFS convention, usually in Brighton in late September, but it has been merged this year with World Fantasy, which alternates between US and non-US locations.)

I of course will just wear my usual selection of silk shirts and vaguely goth-ish tops over black jeans, which fits in pretty much anywhere!

I was mostly going to turn up in semi-casual professional wear: good jeans, preferably black, tidy tops, a smile on my face. I might get some cards printed up, though. I should do that anyway. :) But my thoughts were I want to present myself as someone professional, not scary, to deal with. And dressing up as a klingon doesn't, I think, give that image? ;)
I think, ref the Chronners, the idea of a small badge of something is good. Something discreet. Or it's Hallow'een, should we all carry a broomstick? :D

we could each bring some badge or symbol that could represent us individually as chroners, and have fun spotting other. i approve of the broomstick! ;p

I misread this earlier. You're going a la steampunk? Excellent! You must set up a stall selling your wares.

Had a look at your site, Brian.

I love that T-shirt that has the internal skeleton and the chains.:)

I can see a change in style coming. Do you do 2XL?
