World Fantasy convention 2013

At those prices, it'd cost more to post them out than print them. Best plan would be to pick them up from a central point. Who's got a stand, or whatever they're called? I know Ian Sales has one.

Er, I don't. Interzone are usually kind enough to let me sell my books on their stand.

Well... I thought I had. Filled in the form, entered credit card details, sent it off. Sat back, contented, to await confirmation etc etc. October's a long way off and my spam filter is set pretty high, and I'm always emptying my junk, so I didn't pay much attention to anything. Apparently RBS tried to contact me re the CC transaction, and since I didn't reply, they didn't process it!!! Ho Hum, I'd slap myself on the wrist if I wasn't sdo depressed.

Now I'm left hoping I'll be on the 'first come, first served' and get a membership. Anyone any ideas how to be that person? Otherwise I'll have the money I saved to spend in the pub. I think non-members should be able to get to the bar in the Hotel, but I could be wrong, as it should be separate to the convention, so 'normal' guests at the hotel can use it. They're not going to shut all their own bars off, are they?

Never mind, Boneman. You can sit with me and HB in the Losers' Lounge.

Does anyone know the lay out of the Metropole? If we can access the bars without going though reception, or if the Convention reception will be set back nearer the meeting rooms, we may be OK. We need a Brighton mole! (Or someone who knows the organisers.)

Boneman, they said on twitter is was closed for now, so keep an eye and see if they reopen limited. Or maybe email them and explain what happened, see if they'll sort you out? That was my thinking about the bar, btw, usually the hotel seperates the conference from the main functions of the hotel. But if it's a lunchtime meet up, we could book a table somewhere?

Just rang the hotel, the bar is open to anyone over the event. :)

Thanks Springs, I'll do that. If anyone knows of anyone who can't attend, they do let you do transfers!!

Oh, and it wasn't my CC it was my paypal account, that objected, as I hadn't used it in over a year, they thought it had been hacked... or something.

I will be in Brighton next week, so I'll swing by the Hotel and scope all the bars...

I've the pleasure to announce I'm the official WFC bingo-caller. No, actually that's complete nonsense--a late April fool--but I'd leap at the chance if they offered the role.

'Two fat elder things... 31. That's 31...'

You know where to find me, Brian... Dealers room or the bar unless I'm involved in a programme item. (That applies to WFC, Loncon, and next year's Eastercon.) :)

Well, it's been some time since I did a conference in Brighton (not since the IBC moved completely to Amsterdam – must be nigh on twenty years) but I remember not having major difficulties finding a pub in the vicinity to chat with my sister while her then husband borrowed my badge for a cruise round the exhibition. And I remember that all watering holes in the conference hotel were behind the security line, and wondered at the time what such hotel residents as were not attending did for lubrication.

So, it doesn't seem I will be attending, as such – put off the decision too long – but, being installed in Sussex by then (well, unless something happens to retard my departure yet again) it seems a bit of a waste not to at least turn up, and maybe meet people.

If I can try a tally:

1. Who has already booked to attend WFC?
2. Who s turning up for a drink anyway?

My WFC membership's locked and loaded. I look forward to seeing everyone. :)

I'm guessing the format of the weekend will be similar to the World Horror Convention 2010 (my post count isn't high enough to post a link yet, but it's easily Google-able) which all seemed to go off swimmingly.

I've seen a few requests for tickets in the WFC2013 Facebook group, so that could be another avenue to try. Other than that Lou Morgan recently put out a tweet recommending people follow @WFC2013.

Re: how to identify each other at the event:
1) Sticky labels, assuming most people have dibs on a printer somewhere
2) T-shirt idea - the Grim Reader's Book Club t-shirt on Woot.com keeps calling to me for some reason.
3) A round of Dick & Dom's "Bogies" game on Day One. Perhaps swapping "Bogies" for "Chronicles", and preferably not in the middle of someone's reading. :D

Either way I'll be the beardy-weirdy with silly sideburns haunting the hotel bar, or one nearby, on the Wednesday evening (I know, super keen, eh?). Looking forward to it!

Wey-hey!

I just looked into booking the time off work today. Probably can't do that until next year's school holidays are announced and I find someone to cover for me.

A most excellent idea!
