Oh my, another stealth vote -- thanks, BigJ!

I haven't done such personal nail-biting in a long time! :D Err ... that sounds like I've been biting other people's nails instead, but what I meant to say is that biting one's own nails for other people isn't quite the same....

Just to enhance the excitement, the November photo challenge is now being voted on as well. Photos here

A 'Vote' - I'd passed out from the shock.

Thank you, Phyrebrat - it's my second ever vote...
It's not a great success rate but I still love these little competitions. :cool:

Now for my vote dance, an Irish jig. :D

This was a really hard choice. (In fact, I haven't even come up with my vote yet, but I'm hoping I will by the time I post this.) The variety and inventiveness of the entries was amazing. The satisfaction of knowing that my choice of theme and genre have, in some small part, been the catalyst for this outpouring of creativity is itself worth any number of votes. Which is just as well.

Here's the shortlist (with * even shorter list). There were many others I liked but I had to draw the line somewhere.

Springs
* Stormcrow
Lucky Lola
Chrispy (and extra appreciation for his rhyming comments in this thread)
* DEO
* Phyrebrat
Scott R Forshaw
Aun Doorback
* Mosaix
The Judge
* Hex

It's really hard to choose from the shorter list. Being strict about the centrality of fire to the story, it comes down to Stormcrow vs Phyrebrat. Despite the attraction of voting for someone whose username includes the theme, I'm going to go for Stormcrow, though only just.

Ok top 3 for me ...

TacticalLoco - possible new fashion style?
James Coote - good idea for a movie
Kylara - I knew dragons could be fitted in

Vote goes to alchemist for the tudornetting twitter Good Queen Bess ... made me smile.

Edit ... and thanks for the mentions folks

Hello just a quick message...

When I voted yesterday I wrote a message here with my short list and thanks for the votes and mentions but it's not here! Somewhere along the way It must have been zapped. (And I swear I hadn't been on the NZ Sauvignon again!)

I have to go and scream at some year 8 students now so I will re post when I get home. Just didn't want to come across as either a) missing; or b) iggerant

Thanks Luiglin! A top three mention...dragons can always be fitted in :D

Thank you to James and Starbeast for the mentions! :)

You're welcome Juliana.

I was wondering what happened to you (I figured you were busy). No worries, and I would like to say: "You made me laugh with your comical tale. Excellent."

This is where it gets exciting, down to the last hours, final votes being entered.

Who will win?

Will there be a tie?

Will there be someone else who gets the glory?

A vote ... cheers Moonbat ... that's eased the headache of a nightmare day at work.

Ok, great tales, and a great theme.
Special mention to Boneman for his Ursa-worthy-pun, it made me laugh out loud, or LOL for those of you under 30

my shortlist and vote

Luiglin - Correspondence
The Spurring Platty - November 5, 1580
Lucky Lola - From the Immolating Diary of Inigo Jones
TacticalLoco - The Red Witch
Bowler1 - Wise Woman
Phyrebrat - Harrington's Muse
Boneman - Indigestion

also Thanks for the mentions

I seem to be voting even earlier than I did last month. (But best to do it now, rather than after tonight's orchestral concert.)

The entries are listed in date-of-posting order within each category:

Honourable Mentions:
  • Heir Today by paranoid marvin
  • Might Plymouth sound? by chrispenycate
  • Wherefore Art Thou, Romeo? by David Evil Overlord
  • A Cunning Plan by alchemist
Runners Up:
  • Indigestion by Boneman
  • But I Have The Heart and Stomach of an... by mosaix
  • Lady Jane by Hex
Winner:
  • Elizabeth I: An Angry Old Bird by Scott R. Forshaw

Mmmm tricky one this month...

Down to three:

Aun, Deo and Tactical Loco,

Then to two:

Aun and Tactical Loco

And then after much deliberation...

Aun...it made me smile

Another difficult month. I did my usual pernickity mean bit by excluding those which weren't sufficiently Tudorish or fiery, but there were still plenty to cause me a lot of agonising to get down to my short list, which is:

alchemist -- A Cunning Plan
HareBrain -- Doublet Oh Seven
Luiglin -- Correspondence
mosaix -- But I Have The Heart and Stomach of a ...
reiver33 -- White Rose, Black Heart
StilLearning -- Burning Roses
TheDustyZebra -- The First (and Last) Voyage...

And after a long cogitation, I've gone for TDZ for ascending the brightest heaven of invention! (And for the shameless name-dropping and making me think what happened in 2435.)

Special prizes to HB for the best title of the month and to Boneman and Chris p for the most excruciating final lines!

Thanks for the mentions and short-listings, and mega-thanks to Lucky Lola for the vote!
