Discussion thread -- 75 WORD WRITING CHALLENGE January 2013

Cyberpunk...dragons shall be shoehorned in somehow...now how exactly I do that will be a surprise, to both me and the dragons :p

Juliana – Very clever, and really lead me down the wrong path to start with. It was nice to see a relationship that seemed a realistic template, and you thought it was all real, only to find that the reality was spiced with virtual. Great twist and an excellent ending.

Talysia – I’m pretty sure this is not just me, but this is a terrifying story, the idea itself should be enough to put a chill up anyone’s spine; a tale that could start a conspiracy theory in its own right. This is the form of true revolution, subtle and in secret, just that one word at a time and you would not even know it was happening...

Aun – Oh this one made me chuckle, a great idea something that may actually be plausible one day. Minds copied so they continue living in cyberspace; but the touch that only the rich could afford it is an excellent one. But we get the virus – spread by a picture of a certain celebrity – brilliant, followed by the name and final line, which steals the show.

Victoria – I think last month it was Victoria’s story that made me comment on how I loved a turn of phrase she used, and it seems as though that talent is not a one off. Putting aside the story itself there is some truly wonderful phraseology. The story speaks to me of paranoia, no matter what one (or two) does, always under surveillance, but told beautifully.

Warren – A futuristic retrospective, where we get the whole history of a changed world in 75 words. Clever with an strong central concept, something done with the best of intensions, that works but with unforeseen and damaging consequences sees the world change forever; with the clever twist of a seemingly benign protagonist turned sinister with the close of the tale.

Huh, just had a little thought which led me to look something up and would you believe this month marks the start of the third year of my writing my comments each month?

(I'm quite pleased that I managed to keep it up - I never thought I'd still be doing them two years later and enjoying them too! - apart from the two months I took off when Perp Jr. The Sequel turned up earlier this year...)

I have observed, [quietly], that you have insight very few could emulate. Although there are other commentators, not a single person's observations are well thought-out as yours. Often, I read your post and the commentary brings insight, (a bit I haven't thought of,) into other writers prose. I for one, appreciate it, (writing comments on others work,) and I think it is an art unto itself. I almost enjoy the stories as much as your comments on them.

I do tend to preach about adverbs....I KNOW! NO HATE MAIL ABOUT THE ADVERB!

Thank you for your very kind words Stephen. (And I have not forgotten your story, I've been trying to write a set amount each day - 5 comments at a time, with the erratic exception of weekends - it makes it easier to stay on top of things!)

And we are all very grateful for your comments and appreciate the hard work you've put into them. I believe the part of the challenge I enjoy the most is actually reading your comments as the month progresses.

Thanks Perp! I'm really happy with these comments too.

Wow Perp that is awfully impressive, I am sure I'm not the only one that thoughouly enjoy your comments and look forward to many more years to come.

I was struck with a story last night. (boing) Suddenly I got my idea, polished it and posted.

Whew! I read all of the other stories before I submitted. Lot's of cool tales.

My mind is tired, I'll come back and review the other tales posted later.

Took part after a very very very VERY long time! :)

Though compared to all those awesome works, mine is... 'meh'! :)

My favorite so far is Starbeast's! It was painful and funny at the same time! :D

Thank you sir. Nice to meet you A. S. Behsam.

I like your tale as well, very sad, an emotional drama. I could picture looking from above at the two dead characters on the ground. Great drama.

And thank you too Victoria Silverwolf.

Not 'meh', at all! It was actually quite poignant. A sentient cybernetic organism, programmed to assassinate, but possessing a conscience, and regrets about his nature. In 75 words.
Anyway, mustn't put your work down.

Starbeast - what can I say? Brilliant! A robot manifestation of the curse 'may your life be interesting'. Definitely not the droid I'm looking for - or ever want to meet!

Thank you Victoria. There is actually a complete story hidden in there, if you can find it. :)

@Victoria: Thanks :)

@Starbeast: Thank you :) ^_^

@Abernovo: Thanks a lot, I'm glad you like it :) Oh, I do that allll the time! >_< :p

Thank you, I'm speechless.

You're welcome. Keep up the good work.

Karn M - At the crossroads of a decision always heightens the tension, but then, the choice is made. I like how you left the ending for the reader to decide the outcome.

Hex - I like this situation drama you made, and the removal of the chip helping to start a new beginning. Excellent.

BigJ - That was deep. Great drama, and very intense.

Reiver33 - Very cool story about high tech people being introduced into old fashion reading.

Bowler1 - Interesting spooky take on the future of medical procedure. I liked that.

Springs - A mutant story! Fantastic! I don't see many of these. Nice one springs.

Abernovo - Alright, a future cop story! Good stuff.

Alchemist - Wow! This tale took me by surprise. Marvelous sci-fi.

There have been some very interesting entries thus far, as every month it'll be hard to decide and we're not even a quarter into the challenge. Great work everyone so far; I am very eager to read the future entries, keep them coming!
