Discussion thread -- 75 WORD WRITING CHALLENGE January 2013

stormcrow – there is the old saying of be careful what you wish for, and if ever there was a story that held true to this we see it here. A young woman who wishes nothing but escape from the life she is in, might be wondering if it was worth the price she paid, if the need to wonder was left with her... she might have escaped her life but the cost her humanity.

Stephen – One of the things I often wonder, considering the speed of development in the mobile phone market, is just where will they be in ten years? But that is just what you will be able to do with them, it fails to address what the phones themselves might become. Technology given life without us even realising, perhaps, and striving, wanting, needing to be more.

Starbeast – there are probably those times when you really wich that you had the sense to keep your mouth shut. In the case of the ‘master’ here that is probably one of those times. He might have wanted something different, and he certainly got it, perhaps though just not to this level. Oh well at least it will keep him on his toes. As long as he has them.

A S Behsam – There is something that makes you think in this one. A murder and a suicide; a human and a machine, but is it a machine that was once human, or a machine that cannot be human. I particularly enjoyed the way the non-human was presented, that searching for a glimmer of hope that there might be an emotional component that could be reached.

Mischov – I think this one teaches us to look beyond appearance, and realise that if someone knows us well, then sometimes they can see past the way we look and recognise that which is beneath. Some might call it a soul, the eyes being windows and all that, but there are other ,more subtle things too, body language, speech inflections. No matter how far you run, it seems it is never far enough.

Thank you for the review :)

nixie-- a very subtle story, I think. I interpreted this as a sort of Elizabethean pre-steampunk tale, a sort of alternate history/techofantasy story. Others may see things differently. Quite nicely done.

Perp Man -As always, Thank You!:)

Nixie - very nicely not backed-out of!

Thank you, Starbeast.

You're welcome Bowler1

Starbeast

Thanks for the review Perpetual Man

Thanks, Starbeast, Yeah, I hear cyberpunk, it's where my head goes. :p

I'll keep my eyes open if another cyberpunk challange comes along.

Cheers, Starbeast. What's cyberpunk without a couple of loved-up mutants, eh?

Keep those mutant stories coming.

Welcome back Johnnyjet

Thaks, Starbeast!

You're welcome Alchemist

Ratsy - The fate of the world is only a press of a button away, scary thought, but very cool as a story.

Juelz4sure - That was creepy with a zinger at the end, excellent.

Juliana - Sad tale of love, but, well written.

Talysia - Spooky tale of the unseen evil deception by the govenrment, frightening, but a fun read.

Aun Doorback - Wow, fantastic story. I like that last line.

Victoria Silverwolf - Quite a unique tale, nicely executed.

Warren Paul - Awesome tale, real scary.

Stormcrow - Frightening and unexpected, good stuff.

Stephen4444 - This took me by surprise, I even like the way you wrote it, including with the font.

Thanks, Starbeast. I think I'm definitely going to have to turn this months challenge into an actual book.

DEO – There is a simple idea at the heart of this, but made all the more sinister in the way it is told, and that gnawing thought at the back of your mind, that it might just be possible, that it might be already happening. As computers and programs get ever more complex, who knows... hmmm, AVG has just registered a troja......

Luiglin – Wow. A great bit of description that pulls up some wonderful images through the mind, and a wonderful idea. There is something beguiling in the spider’s journey moving through the unknown, and the destination and what it is for is close to miraculous.

Nixie – For every future there is a beginning, and here we see just one possible starting point. A wonder where technology changes, begins to blossom and those that see it for the first time no that huge things are happening. One that might actually show what is to come as well... well it depends on what it shows, nightmare or utopia...
