Discussion Thread -- SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE -- December 2013

Good work all...

From a close fought favourites list of springs, Boneman, martin321, Tywin, Mr Orange, Luiglin and paranoid marvin Martin secured the vote.

After long perusal (not that simple at this time of the year) I managed a reduction to:-springs' Personal triumph over tragedy, Bowler's three laws, which severely limit the definition of 'human',Karn's impossible demand, Victoria Silverwood's illiterate ant, Luiglin's War of the Wells, mosaix' bag snatching solution, The Dusty Zebra's 'consider the lillies' colonists, paranoid marvin's guide to the (slightly impoverished) galaxy.

I finally went for the Vogons' poetry;).

Dusty --- I bow to the generosity of a vote!! Made my day.

Oh and thank you Parson for the mention! I almost forgot.

After last months Detective Stories, I expected a certain amount of sleighing in December and was not disappointed. And I wasn't disappointed with this month's standard, so picking a winner proved difficult (as always). Anyway, here's the list:

(In the following, each category is ordered by time of posting):

Honourable Mentions:
  • A Broken Faith by Bowler1
  • Innocence Regained! Only $199! by Alchemist
  • The Anthropologist by HareBrain
  • We Can Believe It For You Wholesale by The Judge
Runners Up:
  • Keeping the Spirit Alive by Abernovo
  • I'll Be Home by TheDustyZebra
  • A Trilogy In Five Paragraphs by paranoid marvin
Winner:
  • Just Another Victim... by mosaix

Thanks for the shortlisting Brev, DEO and Chrispy. 'Tis close enough for me to announce I am open to bribes. First person to get a load of chocolates to me.... (Worth a try. :D)

Thanks for the mentions, Mith and telford, and for the shortlisting, TDZ...*

* I'm hoping getting my name in bold means this, anyway.... :D

Yes, bold is the shorter list. It was very close! :D

Thanks to DEO and Chrispy for the shortlistings, and to Ursa for the hallowed runner-up status!

Well, I'm thinking alc can probably get there before anybody else. :)

Very tough choice (which, at the time of writing, I haven't actually made).

Shortlist:

Springs
Martin321
Victoria Silversmith
Tywin
Luiglin
Alchemist
The Judge

Great entries all. I think Alchemist's and Victoria's are marginally ahead of the others, but those two are so different, they're difficult to compare. One instinctively appeals to me more for its feel and inventive use of language, but I think the other is possibly better constructed. And foolishly, I looked at the results so far, so I know that choosing between these two could determine the final result. So I'm going to toss a coin.

Argh! I decided heads for Victoria, and tails for Alc. I tossed the coin four times and failed to catch it (I'd like to be able to blame a bottle of gin, but I cannot in honesty do so) and it landed heads each time. The fifth time I did manage to catch it, and it was tails!

Aaaargh!!!! I'm not joking, I tried a decider, and caught it between two of my fingers.

Vote goes to Tywin

Lol, thanks for the vote HareBrain.

I suppose that I should thank Lady Luck as well for her intervention in your coin toss.

I think this is the universe giving me a message -- turn the car around. Springs, you're going to have to get your own chocolate!

Thanks for the mentions/shortlisting HB and Ursa.

Thanks for the inspiration, Springs!

I've thought of a new sub-genre, and yes...

...it's: Post-à-choc-a-lips.... ;):)

Oops - didn't realise it ended tonight!

VHC: Perp, Parson, Victoria Silverwolf.

Vote: Mosaix
