Rereading the posts was fun and a nice way to help a Sunday morning breakfast along.

For original fun, Starbeast and TSP.

Mentions to Springs, Ratsy, Martin321, Fitz and Victoria.
The important bit, the votes. TDZ, Ursa and Abernovo.

I'm off the starting blocks this month so I'll return to say my thanks etc later.
Good job everyone, it was a nice Sunday morning start for me.

A vote? Thanks, Bowler! :)

My votes will be forthcoming. But...
The problem is that re-reading adds to my long list, rather than shortening my short list.
This. Too many talented people, darn it! :p

Thank you for the mention, StarBeast. I would have said thank you sooner, but I missed seeing it.

I have voted; choosing was such a difficult task.
These are my voting lists:

My long list: practically everyone, as every time I re-read the entries, I saw something I liked in a different entry.

My short list:
Bowler1 - for suspense and a cliff-hanger ending,
Victoria Silverwolf - for an original twist on fantasy,
Mosaix - for atmosphere,
Mr Orange - for a clever reworking of space opera,
Phyrebrat - for capturing Australian larrikinism,
The Judge - for a story as clever as a Chinese box,

and my winners:
Springs - for originality and charm,
Martin321 - for humour, dialogue and a sting in the tail, and
Teresa Edgerton - for the clarity of her prose and the neat twist on a traditional tale.

A lot of very good stories and it took a long time to whittle them down to just 3. My shortlist after three read throughs was:

Springs
Juliana
Victoria Silverwolf
Martin321
SleepyDoormouse
Harebrain
Perpetual Man
Phyrebrat
Alchemist
Teresa Edgerton
Glen
Brev
Jastius

After a final run through my three votes went to Teresa Edgerton, Martin321 and Harebrain. Very well done to all :)

Thank you, Starbeast and Mith for the Honourable Mentions.

You're welcome Teresa Edgerton.

thankyou starbeast for the listing.. :) happy happy happy

You're welcome, welcome, welcome Jastius.

Thanks for the review, Starbeast.

Thank you folks for the 'honourable mentions' so far.

You're double-ly welcome Rafellin.

Oooh, a finalist! Thanks SB!

You're very welcome Perpetual Man. I like you Tom Baker Dr Who avatar.

Thanks for your wonderful comment Bowler1.

Thank you for the mention, StarBeast. I would have said thank you sooner, but I missed seeing it.

No worries. You're welcome TitaniumTi.

Oh, TDZ will be pleased. :p

Oh, yes, very much! :D

I ordered a "regenerations" t-shirt that has all the face outlines, one inside another -- I'm waiting impatiently for it to arrive. Actually, I'd love to have a shirt with Perp's avatar! That would be so incredibly awesome.

I just want to toss out my thanks

To Starbeast for the Honorable Mention
Martin321 for the Short List
Bowler for the Mention

All three of those added together are equal to a vote in my head..haha

Thanks SB. I was rather pleased with it. But look closely, it's more than just Tom Baker! :D

Besides the Tardis I noticed when I first saw it, I can bearly make out different outfit of perhaps another Dr Who. Unfortunately my friend, I stopped watching Dr Who when Tom Baker finished his series. I try to catch a Dr Who episode now and then when I find them.

I just want to toss out my thanks To Starbeast for the Honorable Mention

You're welcome Ratsy. Keep em' flying.

Thankyou for the vote Karn, its really lovely that you did, you being so very sick now and everything..

I'm beginning to think Victoria's comments are one of the best parts of these challenges. In my case she summed up a series of books that occupied most of my early youth in 2 sentences, and did it well

Thank you Rafellin and Starbeast for two very early votes and clearly, I'm over the moon.

Martin321 (like your current 3 votes) and TitaniumTi for mentions.
The front runners are off (not me, but I'm still happy), place your bets.

A great selection of stories, with, curiously, quite a few mentions of Australia. My favourites were, with my votes in bold:

  • ratsy - comedic contrast between the excitement of the crowd and the ensuing, shocked disappointment
  • Victoria Silverwolf - atmspheric contrast of sacred and profane
  • Starbeast - humourous contrast of the wise-cracking Spidey and the serious Batman
  • mosaix - courage and strength of character confronts arrogance and hubris
  • fitzchivalry - vivid, confronting, capital punishment
  • HareBrain - punchy, over the top, stacked with gags
  • Phyrebrat - liked the stream of consciousness style of this one, the exposition mixed amongst personal reflection.
  • The Judge - time travelling muse
