Discussion thread -- SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE May 2014

Bob, all the best. My thoughts are with you.

Storyteller, thank you very much for the shortlisting.

Thanks for the vote and the mentions. Mine went Ursa Major for the spin doctor

Hey, SB - you're welcome. Hope the need for medicine leaves you soon. Rest up, intergalactic-fella; get well soon!

I'm ok. Just a little out of it. But I'm here Stormcrow.

First time for a long time I haven't written a story. My faves this month were TJ, Perpetual Man, Stormcrow and, my vote went to, Victoria Silverwolf.

I missed seing you in the challange Glen. But, glad you could stop by.

...thank you you very very very much chrispenycate for the vote! to get the vote from the resident, self-proclaimed pedantissimo means a lot.

A.Fare Wells thanks for putting me on your long list.

Starbeast it feels dead mint to be one of your finalists. Thank you.

Hey, wait a minute -- do you know something I don't? Because I haven't actually made a list of any length yet.... :D

Thank you Victoria Silverwolf for the listing! I was very happy (and surprised!) to make it that far up on your list, not to mention the flattering remark included with the listing. :) And on that note, thank you very much Starbeast for including me with your finalists!

Thank you for the mentions alchemist and Starbeast!

(The last time I tried to combine humor with science fiction, it was a resounding flop, so I am thrilled that people are actually liking this story.)

ha ha, just planting a seed....

apologies, that should have been thanks very much to the storyteller for the shortlisting of my story

Mentions first.
Khayos, Stilllearning, Juliana, Martin321, Chrispy, Culwich and The Judge.

My vote was split between Tywin and Mosaix, with Mosaix finally getting my vote by the most slender margin (potty humour won over sexism, but only just).

it was nice to see RAY GUNS finally being used as they should be, planet wide destruction and what have you. A gentle reminder that the Boweller 1 is fully powered up to encourage democratic voting. Which leads me to wonder if the Conservatives or Labour would like to pay for my services, to help them along in future polls!

The race to the finish is anyone's yet, so good luck everyone.

I found the decision very, very hard this month. So had to use much more severe methods for the final shortlist.

However I felt Cornelius deserved a mention, as he made me chuckle as does TJ because there was something very honest in hers.

The actual shortlist:
Victoria,
Juliana,
SB
Chris
Cul
Ursa

The vote was split between Chris and Victoria, and I vacillated from one to the other far too many times before deciding on giving it to Chris, as not only was it clever but it captures the look of the classic 50's movies and anyone who can sneak the word pulchritudinous into a story deserves recognition!

so time to list and vote...

short list:

bowler1: Stag Night
AnyaKimlin: Skip
Khayos: 3.6896061e+17 light years too far.
Tywin: Power Players
alchemist: The End of Civilisation as We Know It
Culhwch: Omega
Ursa Major: No Sorcery please, we're aliens

in the end i went for Culhwch's Omega

by the way, AnyaKimlin, did you intentionally rhyme your MC with a certain politician here in the UK or was it just a coincidence?

First of all, Bob, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
