DISCUSSION -- January 2015 75 Word Writing Challenge

Okay, finally the time to vote. Thanks once again to Victoria for the great genre/theme choices. As was the case with many other folks my shortlist turned out to be very long, so I did some pruning, and came up with the following:

Honorable mentions:
BigJ, farntfar, Bowler1, Parson, Perp, telford, TJ, jastius

Shortlistings:
springs, alchemist, Moonbat, mosaix, TDZ

Finalists:
Cascade, Victoria, Mr. Orange, Ursa Major

Vote:
I came down to two stories--Ursa's clever take on a classic fairy tale...I love that an inner voice was given to an intriguing character who* we never knew enough about. And Cascade's wonderful story...I love the fresh feel to this piece, and the original take on the challenge topic. By the narrowest of margins I ended up going with Cascade; I really love this story. Well done all!

* is it 'who' or 'whom' here? I think 'who'...? :)

Thanks for making my story your runner-up, CC. :)

...was given to an intriguing character who* we never knew enough about.
It's 'whom'. This can be seen if you rearrange the end of the sentence to:

...was given to an intriguing character about whom we never knew enough.

The easiest way -- and I think it may be right, too -- is to replace "who/ whom" with "he/ him" -- if it's "him", it's "whom".

So, here: "We never knew enough about him."

Thank you Ursa..everyone! I really shouldn't be allowed to write! (I used to know to rearrange the sentence, *sigh*.)

BigJ thank you for the vote, much appreciated.

It's even closer at the top of the 75 poll now (not me this month, but I still love my votes) and could be anyone's yet.

I got down to three in the end, after picking only from stories I thought followed both theme and genre (i.e. were "proper" love stories rather than using love as a secondary theme). These were the entries from Cascade, Robert Mackay and Michael Colton.

And Cascade gets my vote. Nice understated use of the theme, I thought.

Thanks for the tiny listing starbeast. My long list was everyone, my short list ended up being everyone minus two, who I felt I was dropping arbitrarily. I woke up this moirning still musing on Springs stroy, and realised that had left the biggest impression!

Cat's Cradle: Thanks loads for the Honorable Mention.

Horribly difficult to choose, why am I not surprised...?

Any of these finalists could Have won, seriously:

Ashleyne B Watts
Willwallace
Cascade
Alchemist
Holland
Reiver 33
Ursa Major
The Judge

Stonkingly good stories all. in the end, by a DNA strand, Cascade got my vote...

Blimey, I go and vote and see Chrispenycate has sneaked a stealth vote in for me. Thank you so much! My best challenge in a long while.

Thanks for all the mentions, also, to anyone I've missed.
