DISCUSSION -- October 2015 300-word Writing Challenge (#19)

mosaix -- The precise language and meticulous crafting of this evocative story reflects the care with which the psychology of its protagonist is depicted. The calm tone of its narrative style renders the final revelation all the more effective.

Bowler1 -- The verisimilitude of this dramatic tale is strengthened by careful use of realistic details. By depicting a character with an extended view of time, we are drawn into the author's vision of the endless cycle of life.

ratsy -- In this story classic elements of science fiction are combined with a sense of the uncanny, resulting in an almost mystical mood. The use of a seemingly childish rhyme adds to the eerie feeling created by the author.

Luiglin -- In this delightful comedy the author makes use of scientific concepts to produce a witty romp through ancient times. By combining this with non-human characters who are all too human, the reader is amused by the pretensions of our fellow creatures.

Mr Orange -- Through a subtle use of the sounds of words the author creates a sense of the narrator's mental state after traumatic events. This allows the reader to accept the change in the story's tone from realism to mysticism.

A. Fare Wells -- The truly cosmic scale of this visionary fantasy sweeps the reader away through time and space. Wisely, the author makes sure to create characters with whom we can empathize, offering a fully emotional experience.

Jo Zebedee -- The author creates a completely convincing fantasy world through the use of vivid details and characters to whom we can relate. Through this technique the emotional power of the story's allegorical conclusion is strengthened.

johnnyjet -- Like a chameleon, this story shifts moods and genres swiftly and with grace. By combining fast-paced, realistic suspense with intellectual hard science fiction and philosophical speculation, this tale truly has something for everyone.

Robert Mackay -- This moody, surreal story intrigues the reader as much by what it leaves unsaid as by what it relates. The appearance of a certain symbol throughout makes it clear that not all conundrums can be solved.

StilLearning -- The sweeping vision of this apocalyptic science fiction epic is perfectly balanced by its focus on a single individual faced with the challenge of survival. By allowing us to experience the sensations, hopes, and fears of this character the author draws us into the story completely.

Mr Orange -- Through a subtle use of the sounds of words the author creates a sense of the narrator's mental state after traumatic events. This allows the reader to accept the change in the story's tone from realism to mysticism.
