Discussion Thread -- February 2016 75-word Writing Challenge

It's been too long, so I've thrown my hat in. Unfortunately I now have nothing to conceal my ever encroaching bald spot.

Some great stories already, loved the idea DG. Literally the things you don't see :)

Second month in a row when I didn't think I had anything, but finally had an idea and its in.

Interesting to see the chat about the word counts. I always reckon the pain of counting words (by hand!) would far outweigh the pain of being dismissed from the comp. I use the my word counter and err on the side of caution. I went in at 70 wds this month partly because of a (commonly used) acronym - even if it was expanded out I reckon I would still be in.

Parson -- The visual appearance of this unnerving tale, much like a concrete poem, adds to its vividness.

johnnyjet -- The author supplies a thoughtful allegory of the darkness within all of us.

Mr Orange -- The subtle structure of this multi-layered story strengthens its theme of things that are hidden.

Bowler1 -- Sardonic wit and a satiric touch can be found in this black comedy.

Inca_UK -- The childhood fears we all share are brought to life in this quiet story.

Alex Darion -- This psychological chiller features an unexpected twist in its conclusion.

MemoryTale -- Very dark humor and irony fill this deconstruction of modern horror fiction.

nixie -- This mysterious tale leaves its greatest horrors to the imagination of the reader.

Calliopenjo -- The author creates a greatly unsettling image with only a few hints in this open-ended tale.

Glen -- This modern twist on a classic theme supplies a satiric look at the technological age.

Kythe -- By showing us events through the eyes of a menacing being, the author allows us to empathize with it.

This going-on about cool-people-clubs are making the rest of us rules-abiding forum denizens a bit j-e-a-l-o-u-s. And yes, I like using hyphens. I'll start a hyphen-lovers club, where all the uncool, lame people can hang out. You can't have ying without yang.

Could I ask the mods please, once each comp is over is it OK if I post my entry on my blog?

@Inca_UK Mysterious dark beings visit whom they choose. They may even come to you. Unnerving.

@Alex Darion What could be more terrifying, than hearing an unseen force surrounding you? Chilling.

@MemoryTale Zombies can attack, enormous arachnids may try to eat you, but nothing, escapes the Hand of Death!!!

@nixie Some kind of thing, pursues humans, and takes them away. For what unspeakable purpose? Shocking.

@Calliopenjo A bizarre, crazed creature of horror stalks women, to tear them apart. Very disturbing.

@Glen After a great once-in-a-lifetime deal, a man lives it up, as he awaits to die by the ruler of hell. Yipes!!!

@kythe An unknown beast must satisfy it's appetite, by dining on (what it considers, tasty) human flesh. GASP!!!

@Robert Mackay Phantasms torture a woman nightly for every sin she committed, even if it's accidental. Total misery.

@Phyrebrat Some say, there is purgatory for sinners in the grave. Temporary hell, or is it karma? Remember, always be good.

@pambaddeley They are others out there, unearthly beings, that share our dimension. Very creepy.

Thank you Starbeast. Horror isn't my thing but I thought I might give it a try. I couldn't go wrong with a limit of 75 words. :D

Thanks Starbeast.

Robert Mackay -- This haunting, dreamy tale offers an allegory of the things we look back on and regret.

Phyrebrat -- The deliberately old-fashioned style of the narrator adds to the power of this melancholy story.

pambaddeley -- An increasing sense of menace is created in this suspenseful story.

Bob Senior -- The author has fun with this amusing footnote to the career of a famous performer.

Jo Zebedee -- This story manages the difficult task of creating terror with a poetic style.

crystal haven -- Through the use of an unreliable narrator, we learn how we can deceive ourselves through misperception.
