Discussion Thread -- February 2016 75-word Writing Challenge

My first online entry ever. Can someone please tell me it was 75 words and give me their opinion. Thank you
Hi Thomas

Just to say that your post has indeed been brought over here from the main thread -- that has to be for the stories themselves and only them, and we don't allow anything by way of comment there. I've actually edited the post now it is here, though, to delete your quote since it contained the story itself. Having it here would have given it an unfair advantage -- in the same way it can't be posted anywhere else until voting is all over.

And just as a word of caution, never post anywhere and then ask for a word count check. If you had been over the 75 word allowance and no one had responded to you within the hour allowed for editing, the story would have been removed and you wouldn't have been able to post another this month. If you're not sure about word count, ask a friend to check for you. If there is no one at home with you who can do that, then PM someone here you know. Failing that, PM a mod and ask him/her to check (though we'd prefer people not to make a habit of that, as you can imagine).

As it happens, on my counting you are OK at 75. Good luck with your entry.

Just as a wee addendum to The Judge's post, and since you asked for people's opinions on your story, on the "Discussion" thread (ie this one) we don't tend to go into detail with respect to critiquing other folks' stories. Usually if there's any comment it'll be a short review (see Starbeast's and Victoria Silverwolf's previous posts) or a short comment like "good work!"

For a more thorough response to your story, you can post your entry in the "Improving Our 75-Word Stories" thread, but that will only happen once the current challenge is finished (see the dates at the beginning of the thread). There you can comment on other people's stories, and ask others for their opinions on your own.

It probably sounds like there are loads of rules, but really it's not like that, and it's good to see somebody new throw their hat into the ring :)

@thomas sweetman, like DG said, well done on your first entry. if you want a good honest opinion on your story, wait until the voting is over and then post it in the improving our 75 word stories thread. detailed discussion, explanation and comment on the stories doesn't really happen until after voting. our resident reviewers excellent work excepted

EDIT: i see DG got in first whilst i was trying to figure out how to link the other thread!

And by
until the voting is over
we mean by the end of the whole process of voting, which can include a tie-breaker poll (that lasts a couple of days) in situations where two or more people share the lead after the first poll.

I think this is the latest I've ever posted for the 75 word but there it is. I haven't read any of the others yet but think I will have a peek. This is a great theme and genre...one of my favs.

It must be: you've posted six days after me....

Bowler1 smiles and with a smug look (I always look smug, and yellow, and happy...) holds up his latest ray gun. That's right, a time blasting ray gun that's works. I need never be late for a party again. Now to zap the Bear once more and confuse everyone.

Anticipating that mad flurry of time's-nearly-out stories! :) Great month so far...I have a clear favorite, but we'll see if an end of timer can change things. Great genre/theme choices, LittleStar!

ps--no worries, thomas s.! You'll be an old pro at these challenges by next month! :)

Well, we've got the requisite forty-two (and a reserve one in case one has too many words{while hoping, of course, not}), but my little list suggests that:- Culhwch, farntfar, Glen, Hairbrain, Hex, Juliana, Kerrybuchanan, Mad Alice, The Judge, TheDustyZebra, Tim James, TitaniumTi and Venusian Broon have not yet submitted - unusual for several of them, but there's more than a day to go yet.
@chrispenycate Do we really know who helps behind the scenes of theater plays? Humans, surely...or maybe someTHING all together, unearthly? Masterfully written.
Helps? Stage hands, technicians, props, wardrobe and makeup help? Without the invisibles there wouldn't be a performance - and try to find their names in the programme. Filed under 'Walter Plinge'.

Eeep, don't set Bowler on me!

I've entered honest guv, first on page 3!

I think that just shows that Tim James and I should win by default for creating stories so in keeping with the theme that they are not seen. Or it could be that my story is about the Dark Lord, so don't try reading it in a mirror, it won't be there.
