Discussion Thread -- April 2016 75-word Writing Challenge

Another one bites the dust.

I wondered, while writing this month's story, if a contraction would count as one word or two? And how many words is "2:30", one, or should this shorthand form be translated to "two-thirty", which presumably would be two.

Little Star - Cali seems stubborn, too much pride to throw in the towel, like my cat of the same name.

By the way, have you heard of a New York based indy-folksman named Jesse Malin? He sings a song called "Little Star." It's worth a listen if you're into that kind of music, and probably a song Cali would appreciate.

Glen - I'm surprised that after coming all the way from Venusia they chose to have the race run at a nearly defunct shell of a track like Aqueduct. If they are a species that appreciates the beautiful melancholy of decay and nostalgia, though, then it might not be so bad living under their rule. Or...they may restore Aqueduct to it's former glory. Of course, maybe Lazarus runs better at a dog track then at a more classy place like Belmont. Maybe you know that. Maybe they let you pick the track.

Robert McKay - That story sounds like my average day, thankfully with the exception of the obscene wave-off, but especially scanning the sky for salvation. Could I be one of them and not know about it?

Vestigal Vespers, @johnnyjet – Evocative and melancholy, this post-apocalyptic tale leaves us with hope for the future.

What we don’t understand, @Cascade – This curious rhyme speaks of creatures with outlandish habits worryingly close to our own.

Duck and Cover, @Bowler1 – The survivor of an apocalypse that never was struggles to comes to terms with the collapse of their reality.

Outsiders? For Now…, @mosaix – A chilling tale of infiltration told from the side of the invader.

Just The Stars, @LittleStar – A pair of stargazers discuss their hopes and dreams.

Outsiders KEEP OUT, @Starbeast – Two astronauts discover life on Mars and get chewed out by it. Nefarious use of title for extra words!

The Lone Patron, @BluePhoenix711 – A ravenous hunter chooses his meal as his meal chooses her own.

@Heijan Xavier – Two travellers discuss an outbreak of a mysterious disease that they seem to be responsible for.

Outsiders, @Culhwch – A classic tale of fear transposed into deep space. Don’t let them in!

Long Shot, @Glen – The fate of humanity hangs in the balance in this tense underdog story.

Venusian Broon - Very clever gimmick. Trying to solve the puzzle of why some words are shuffled around a bit. Wasn't it once thought that people south of the equator walked on their heads?

Cool reviews everyone. Jast as well, or I'd have to shoot ya! Everyone knows I don't like to used weapons, not me, I'm a peace loving individual I am.

Heijan Xavier -- An exotic vision which creates a complex back story in a few words.

Culhwch -- A chilling account of how fear can create what is feared.

Glen -- An unusual and suspenseful story of conflict.

Robert Mackay -- A moving allegory of the feeling of not fitting in.

Venusian Broon -- A cleverly constructed concrete poem which reminds us to look before we leap.
