Book Hauls!

There is crazy enough no Conan or REH thread.

I have read only the first story and he impressed me alot with his awesome prose and Conan was great as King Conan. The way he described things with his prose was so great that i had to reread some of the stuff just to see them again.

Couldn't agree with you more regarding REH's prose and charterization of Conan. I really liked the illustrations and that colour plate at the front of the book is great!

As far as not having an REH subforum goes, our general policy is to to wait and see if there's enough of a groundswell of support for a specifc author before they're considered for allocation of their own subforum. So, by you and other members continuing to mention and post about an author the greater the chance a sperate author subforum will become a reality...:)

There are some specifc threads from memory on REH and Sword and Sorcery floating around somewhere....

Today I bought and read in one sitting....

Metamorphoses - Franz Kafka

Thoughts, GOLLUM?

Oh, and incidentally, in relation you might note the beginning to Ellison's "Adrift Just Off the Islets of Langerhans: Latitude 38° 54' N, Longitude 77° 00' 13" W"...

As long as you don't turn into a frog...:p :p

I'll be taking a digital photo of my current TBR pile and Masterwork collection and possibly posting it on the forums under a specific thread we've used in the past.

Please let us know what you think of Prefume and those other books...

Vampire Hunter D - Hideyuki Kikuchi
Dauntless - Jack Campbell
Titan - John Varley
The Rising - Brian Keene

...and yeah, you're always buying books Gollum! What's up with that? Is it something related to your profession or do you just have a bag full of money under your bed and the ability to slow/stop time?

Ha Ha...if only I could stop time or better yet reverse it LOL! I've had a bit of spare money lying about, so yes it's partly that but also because I'm making up for lost time in my attempts to cover the development of the Genre through Masterworks and other noteworthy contributions both present and past....:)

OH Yeh and I'm looking to go to Worldcon in Yokohama Japan if I can later this year and hoping to meet some of these SFF authors.

I'm in a pretty expansive phase right now that's seeing me reading old and new SFF, horror and other 'literary' works in order to expand my horizons and general knowledge.

Cheers...

@Hoopyfrod I know where you're coming from, I had the same issues when I was a student and in my first few years of work. I used to get most of my stuff from the library and hardly owned a book of my own. It's only more recently that I've been able to purchase en masse as it were.

*Sigh* You lucky, lucky thing. Apparently I need my student loan to...you know, eat and boring things like that, otherwise I'd be buying every book I could get my hands on...

Ohh Vampire Hunter D, how good are the books? I remember D was very cool in the anime movie.

GOLLUM ... Congratulations. A collection to be proud of indeed. Dream Hunters is one of my favourite Gaiman's but so is Marvel 1602. I read Metamorphoses in one sitting as well the first time and the same with I am Legend. :)

JD ... Glad the book made it to you safely and I am to tell you that if you try anything and it works (as it is likely to) ... good luck.

Have been bingeing on Graphic Novels lately since the new job is totally lunatic and I'm about ready to move into the office with plush Cthulhu and my quilt.

*ahem* Anything in particular I should try, Cat? And, should I have any luck... you'll be the first to know....:D

I have it on good authority (the recommendation of a friend whose tastes are similar to mine) that the books are excellent. There are currently 17 novels, but only 6 have been translated into English so far by Dark Horse comics. They're about 300 pages each.

I haven't read any of them so far, but I'm looking forward to getting stuck into them as I liked the style and feel of the anime (D's hand is out of this world :D ). I found them on The Book Depository.

(Oh, and I can't get enough of the cover art by Yoshitaka Amano, the character designer in the anime. Apparently the books have illustrations littered throughout, which is a bonus in my opinion. All for £4!)

The same designer thats cool, they looked awesome in the anime.

Please let me know what you think about the book in some thread.

I have been thinking about getting the books and i need to know alittle more about it. Would be helpful to know what you think about it.

As soon as my order comes in, I'll get started on it and post my thoughts/progress. :)
