Aha. I quite loved his The Master and Margarita.
Yep, got that one too and I agree it's a beauty!! Probably the novel he's also best known for although I have it on good authority that Heart Of A Dog is 'extra' weird but in a good way....;)

Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card really impulse buy, something made me buy it despite i had no plan to buy it before i went into the book shop.

Echo Park - Michael Connelly

It sounds interesting. I was reading the introduction and half of it is about how great Assimov was hehe.

I hope its good i havent read good military space story.

Whilst rummaging around a second hand bookshop after work today I picked up the following for a very reasonable price.....

The Lions Of Al-Rassan - Guy Gavriel Kay.

Tailchaser's Song - Tad Williams.

Land Of Dreams - James P. Blaylock *Compared to Bradbury's classic Something Wicked This Way Comes.

Classic Tales of Horror and the Supernatural (Eidtied by Michael Moorcock) incl. Balzac, Poe, Bierce, Walcott, Collins, Hawthorne, Dickens, Le Fanmu, O'Brien, James, Kipling, Machen and Lovecraft.

That's really a good 'haul' Precioussss! :)

I think I got a great deal with The Serpent Bride (Book 1 of Darkglass Mountain) by Sara Douglass. This size paperback usually sell at around $AU30 - my copy set me back only $AU 19 :D

Classic Tales of Horror and the Supernatural (Eidtied by Michael Moorcock) incl. Balzac, Poe, Bierce, Walcott, Collins, Hawthorne, Dickens, Le Fanmu, O'Brien, James, Kipling, Machen and Lovecraft.

Another nifty haul, GOLLUM. But, if you don't mind... could you send me more information on this particular book? Thanks.

Gollum looking at your buys makes me so jealous you just keep buying :p

Heh anyway i made two great buys. I got paperbacks of Harlan Coben's Tell No One for only 30 kronor or 4.3 dollars and The Lincoln Lawyer for 35 kronor or 5 dollars. Heh put that together its not even what one of them cost in my book shop.

Yeh I'm on a buying spree alright!!!

Today I bought...

Un Lun Dun - China Mieville.
Dark Alchemy - Magical Tales from Masters Of Modern Fantasy incl. Gaiman, Card, Colfer, Nix, Wolfe, McKillip, Beagle, Ford & Lee.

GOLLUM ... That's a wonderful haul there.

I do like the sound of Classic Tales of Horror and Dark Alchemy. Will try and see if Brian the bookdealer can chase copies down for me.

Heart of a Dog is wonderful though I think Master & Margarita is still a favourite. It's probably a cat thing. :)

Coraline is very good and I think you'll never take buttons for granted or look at them the same way again. I'm curious about what you'll think of Un Lun Dun. I liked it myself and think Mieville should do more of the same.

The Hobbit graphic novel is a piece of loveliness. The artwork was very well done indeed. I just got George RR Martin's Hedge Knight graphic novel and that was beautiful. Okay ... so I cried my way through it.

Also got Fritz Lieber's Fafhrd and Grey Mouser in a graphic novel. It's made of many tales with the first being about how they met. Again a well done collection though the artwork is less intricate than Hedge Knight.

I liked the Book Thief and Death's role in it. Another writer I hope to read more of. There's been many books lately about books and most make interesting reading. This one particularly and Shadow of the Wind and Thirteenth Tale and he Book Without Words. :)

The Mary Stewart books are an old favourite. I read them way back when I was in school. Was one of the things that set me on the path of things Arthurian.

Thanks for the interesting input as always Nesa!...:)

After going to the dentist for a root canal earlier today I thought I'd hover around one of my local bookshops as you do and ended up picking out:

The Court Of The Air - Stephen Hunt.

It's described as "a hugely engaging adventure set in a Victorian-style world -- a fantastical version of Dickens -- that will appeal to fans of Susanna Clarke and Philip Pullman"

Naturally after a wrap like that I just had to buy it, didn't I?...:)

OK, for those who don't want to read this post turn away now...;)

For the rest....

Novels

Tyranny Of The Night (Book 1 Instrumentalities Of The Night) - Glenn Cook
The Left Hand Of Darkness - Ursula K. LeGuin
Nightmare At 20,000 Feet Horror Stories by Rchard Matheson
Hell House - Richard Matheson
The Years' Best Fantasy and Horror 2006 edited by Kelly Link et al incl. Mieville, Ford, Sterling, Ryman and Roden. * A great way to be introduced to new authors of the Genre.

Graphic Novel

The Dream Hunters - Neil Gaiman & Yoshitaka Amano * Recognised classic.

Nice selection again, GOLLUM! It's been quite a while since I've read Hell House -- I'm curious to see what you think. If you've read Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House, and seen the Robert Wise film, then it may give you a different view of Matheson's book.

And I'm really curious about what you'll think of The Dream Hunters.....

Heh yeah. I saw the film Legend of Hell House, based on this book (screenplay by RM) and it was a excellent gripping enterprise that even the letdown climax doesn't dilute significantly.

I was out and about in town today (have you noticed how I seem to turn every book haul into a mini story? Ah well...) going in and out of charity shops looking for bits to add to a fancy dress costume. And in every shop I invariably checked out the book sections. And in the third shop I suddenly thought to myself: Wouldn't it be strange if I found The Lies of Locke Lamora in one of these shops (because everyone's been raving about it so I've been meaning to buy it) but then I told myself, nah, that's unlikely. One minute later, what do I see? Yep! There it is, for a mere two pounds! Hardback! Woop.

I also bought the Secret Garden for one pound because it's my favourite childhood story.
