What happened to holding back on the hauls? :p

Friday I went with some colleagues to have a few beers, in order to say goodbye to someone quitting and moving somewhere else. I talked to her a bit and she recommended Flowers for Algernon to me as she had recently read it and it had really enjoyed it.

Thinking of that on top of the countless number of times I've seen people in here speaking highly of it, I went to look for it Saturday.

First I went to Vibes and Scribes, but they didn't have it. I found The Blood Rites by Jim Butcher, though. The first line caught me "The building was on fire, and it wasn't my fault" and it seemed both funny and interesting, so I bought it, not realising that it's the sixth in a series, but I've already made another thread about that.

Secondly I went to Eason where they didn't have it either, but they did have Heart shaped box by Joe Hill and I bought it.

Finally, I went to Waterstones where they did indeed have Flowers for Algernon, so I bought it.

Yeah, but Cryptonomicon is equal to about any three normal-length books, Gollum. Great book, though. :D

GOLLUM .... it's still a haul nevertheless.

I did like reading The Prestige and surprisingly liked the movie as well though if I had to choose I'd go with the book.

Ooooh you got the Neverwhere graphic novel too. :) Just got that a tiny while ago and it's really well done. Loved the artwork. There's also a mini-series and I liked that as well, though it's got some bad reviews.

Am curious what you think about Perfume and Bridge of Birds. I like Hughart's books though they are not so easy to come by.

Ooooh, I was going to read 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear, but I gave it to a cousin for their birthday instead - have you read it Precious? Recommended?

And where on earth do you keep all these books?

Nope, I took it from the shelf, read the blurb and was sold on that. It's also lavishly illustrated. Never read Bluebear, sorry LOL!

The pic I had of 3 shelves full of books now imagine 4 shelves and another half shelf in the adjoining cupboard.......:)

I'm going to WroldCon Japan this year so I'll probably bring back a suitcase or two of books EEK!!...
