Why say Tyrion's a Targ?

I like the idea of Cersei and Jaime being Targs for many of the reasons already stated here: the idea of Tywin raising them without realizing it is delicious... almost as delicious as Tywin knowing and being unable to find a way around it, especially once Tyrion is born. Plus, the whole "incest = genetic?" thing would amuse me, and Cersei certainly has some of the insanity that the Targs are famous for. The idea of her ending up as crazy as Aerys while Jaime goes on to try to redeem himself (which is how I see things going), and ending up as honorable as his half-brother Rhaegar is quite delightful, too.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't see the appeal, storyline wise, for having all of the Lannister kids turn out to be Targaryens.

This seems to absolve Tywin of kinslaying (after all, Tywin's not really his father), absolve Jaime and Cersei of committing incest (after all, they're Targs), strip Cersei's descent into madness of any sort of poetic justice (hey, she's a Targ, half of them go crazy anyway), absolve Tywin of the horrible way he treated Tyrion (Aerys raped his wife, who can blame him for being such an awful father), and increase opportunities for Jaime to become an even bigger fan favorite. Hey, maybe we'll even find out that Aerys married Joanna in secret so that Jaime actually has a claim to the Iron Throne himself.

On top of that, I just don't think there's much support for it in the books. Aerys raped the wife of his Hand on two separate occasions and not a whisper or hint from anyone about it? Not even a throwaway reference to Joanna making visits to King's Landing? Or even comments about Aerys being a womanizer along the lines of Aegon IV. I'm just not buying it. The only thing we hear about the early years of Aerys' reign, and, given the conception of Jaime and Cersei, his raping Joanna would have to have occurred during the early years of his reign, was that he was charming and generous but prone to "lapses". I never interpreted "lapses" as raping noblewomen married to the most powerful members of his Small Council.

I want to retain BB as my legal counsel!:)

Maybe it was Joanna and Rhaegar.

I don't like the idea of all three, either, BB... I just think it would be amusing if the twins were. I, however, can almost guarantee that it won't happen: GRRM is smarter than that. I'm mostly just babbling. *g*

Ok, i couldnt find another thread that came closer to my question so i started with this one...

I was reading ASOS last night and during the ceremony when Sansa was wedding Tyrion, she was dancing with Garlan (The Gallant) Tyrell. He mentioned to her that Tyrion was a much bigger man than Loras. Now obviously everyone has the inkling that Tyrion is one of the Dragons, and he could have been just saying it in the "being a more stand up guy" sort of way. However, Maester Aemon, Garlan Tyrell, and Shae (although in a more mocking way) all made the same comments that he is a much bigger man than most can see.

1) Has there been anyone else who has made similar comments in regards to Tyrion?
2) What other conclusions can be drawn from these comments.

Knowing that ADWD is the other half of AFFC, i can imagine that there are some charcters that may know more than what they have spoken within a particular POV. Also, there has been several instances where a speaker is making an important comment or explanation and is cut off by someone entering the room, or the subsequent ending of a chapter.

I wonder if it's more to the whole Tyrion is "Bigger than he seems" comments that have been given thusfar. Or besides his apparent infactuation with dragons, is this why everyone suspects that he is a Targ?

Well, I'll keep it short because I'm going on holidays for 2 weeks and have no time for a longer response:

TYRION IS NOT A TARG! He is more Lannister than any other living Lannister, with the exception of Tywin.

I'll gladly chew my cud if this theory turns out to be true.

I've been seriously thinking about this for the last week. I know I'm the big proponent of Tyraen Targaryen around here, but I might be changing my mind. TT now seems a bit too obvious to me... and I'm also beginning to feel the same about R+L=J. I need to do some serious research on my newest crackpot theory. I feel that I may have figured out Jon's parents/TPTWP/3 Heads/AA/Valonqar/Ice and Fire in one new simple theory... I'm hoping to drop it on you guys before GRRM announces that he's finished ADWD on August 7.

Tyrion as a Targ is definately wide open, but seeming too obvious is no reason to dismiss it - after all, you've spent a long time with the notion and if nothing better has since come to mind (barring this intriguing new theory, of course) then there's every reason to stand by it, irrespective.

What keeps bugging me is Jaime's dream of his mother as a silent sister (how would that factor into your new theory?). I suppose it could be just that, a dream, or have some other significance attached to it entirely, but that bothers me.

R+L=J, however, is cast-iron. Surely?

I dont believe anything can be assumed with this series. Unless we "see" the truth, then who knows? I'm eagerly awaiting more "Holy sh*t!" moments from the next few books, and I dont care how rediculous they may seem. If I stop, pause, then re-read a sentence, then its good stuff.

Tyrion as Targ would be mad. Boaz, throw your theories in, they are good to read :D

Jaime's dream of his mother will be the culmination of many smaller proofs in my theory.

Holy toledo this does sound interesting!

A Grand Unified Theory of A Song of Ice and Fire! (GUTSIF?)

GUTSIF... that'd be nice IF I had any GUTS...

I also think that I'll be able to tie in the Seven, R'hllor, and the House of Black and White into the theory and solve the entire series.

And all scheduled to arrive in the next seven days.

I can hardly wait.

Me neither.

Ursa - I hope that 'E' doesn't stand for who I think - although that would be a shocker!

Sorry to double post, but I need to know whether I've missed Boaz's presentation of his Grand Unified Theory?

(Even in Colorado, it's already the 7th of August.)

I hope, and think, not - but maybe Boaz decided that he needed to split the theory into two halves and re-work it some? :D

When i read the part where Aemon says something about all his brothers dreaming of dragons and then i remembered vaguely that Tyrion dreamed of dragons...
This is starting to make some sense to me now! Waiting for Boaz's grand theory :D
