Discussion Thread -- 300 Word Challenge #13

Really enjoyed your 300 worder, A. Fare Wells! Very nice story!

Very happy to see The Chrons back online! (Strange that it went down within hours of a Challenge story suggesting a nefarious purpose for the site! :))

Whew! I finally got my tale together and posted.

Hmm, I thought there would be a couple of pages of stories by now. Ah well, I'm sure most people are working on them as I text.

Oh boy! I can't wait to read the other tales before mine. And see who has entered this challenge.

:) Great stuff, Starbeast! OMG, the scene on the bridge, priceless!...I won't say more! There's so much to love here, but I don't want to give anything away, so I'll just say 'Well done!!' (and then go to read it again! :)).

Cat's Cradle -- The author has a merry time joshing the readers in this Moebius strip of a self-mocking romp.

A. Fare Wells -- The myths and fears of the future are presented in this thoughtful portrait of an intelligence other than our own.

Starbeast -- With boundless energy, this wild ride through a re-imagined fantasy land is sure to raise a chuckle.

TitaniumTi -- Through the use of an introspective point of view, the author offers tantalizing hints of the mysterious and frightening.

Thanks, Victoria! I did indeed feel merry while doing this one, it was fun! :)

I'm sorry to have to report that once more we've had to pull a story for being over word count. We really hate doing this, so everyone please remember:

COUNT THE WORDS MANUALLY. DON'T RELY ON MACHINES TO GET IT RIGHT.

And if you're not comfortable with numbers or counting

GET SOMEONE ELSE TO CHECK.

This 305 word challenge is as such - a challenge.

I am pleased I can count to 306 otherwise I would be, what we call up north, knackered.

Going to let it marinate and read it in a couple of weeks to see if I still like it.

I'm sitting and waiting too and still deciding. I like mine, but it's seriously dark and I'm worried that it won't play well. All those hooks and sharp points fished something very nasty from the depths of my imagination, but I'm not sure I want to throw it back. Decide some more I think.

Thanks Cat's for the wonderful comments my friend, you've blown me away, and made my day (er, night)!

Thank you for your wonderful review Victoria. I was fighting a PC virus and couldn;t read the stories right away. Hopefully soon I can get to reviewing everyone who posted.

I'm kinda stunned that not many people have posted. Slow month I guess. Voting will be interesting though.

Are you serious Gary, we have 305 words to use? I didn't see that on the rule page.

Take your time Bowler1. You'll know when the time is right.

I almost went for a dark story myself, but a chain of events turned me back to comedy.

Looks like it was A. Fare Wells. Commiserations. :(

if it wants out, let it out... it may not be a good idea to keep it in your head...

i certainly didn't want to keep my story locked in, creating havoc.

plus, there seem to be a fair few dark stories this month

Thanks, mosa. I did to much tinkering after I'd posted it and the machine failed to give me an accurate count. I knew I should not have trusted the machine.

Not to worry, though. I'm pleased with what I came up with and might develop it further at some point. Could make a decent, but challenging, story. But I've got to complete the multiple other fictions I've started.

Oh, do post it in this thread after the voting is done, so we can see it -- I missed it entirely!

I just found out too A. Fare Wells, real sorry to hear you can't be with us on the 300. But I'm glad you're making the best out of it.

I get so paranoid about the word counts, I purposely make my stories a few words under. But I still count it over and over.

I'd like to read it too. :)

johnnyjet -- A touch of the transcendent adds something special to this "hard" science fiction epic.

Brev -- Within the heart of this fast-paced, vivid tale is a meditation on the nature of good and evil, and what place faith might play in the struggle between them.
